Explores Abram's journey of faith and obedience, highlighting the challenges and blessings that come with unwavering allegiance to God's call.

Introduction

Good morning, family. It's a blessing to be here today, to share in the love and grace of our Lord. We are gathered here, not by chance, but by divine appointment. We are here to learn, to grow, to be challenged and to be comforted.

Tommy Barnett once said, "God wants to be the center of your life, not to simply be imbedded in a slice of it." As we look into the life of Abram today, we'll see that truth played out. We'll also see the strife that comes with following God, but also the peace that surpasses all understanding.

Dear Lord, we thank you for this day, for your love and your grace. We thank you for your word, for the lessons it teaches us, for the comfort it brings. Open our hearts today, Lord. Help us to hear your word, to understand it, to apply it to our lives. Guide us, Lord, as we study your word. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Let’s get started!

Serving in Strife

Abram, as we know, was called by God to leave his homeland, his family, and everything he knew to go to a place that God would show him. This was not an easy task. It was a task filled with strife and hardship. Yet, Abram obeyed. He served God in the midst of his strife.

Details: Abram was not just called to leave his home, but also his family. This was a big deal in those days. Family was everything. It was your support system, your safety net. Yet, Abram was willing to leave all that behind to follow God's call. This shows us the depth of Abram's faith and his willingness to serve God, even in the midst of great personal sacrifice.

More to this story: Abram was also called to go to a place that he did not know. He didn't have a map or a GPS. He didn't know where he was going or what he would find when he got there. Yet, he trusted God. He served God in the midst of his uncertainty.

The promise: God promised Abram that he would make him into a great nation, that he would bless him and make his name great. This was a huge promise. It was a promise that would take years, even generations, to fulfill. Yet, Abram believed God. He served God in the midst of his waiting.

The blessing: God promised to bless Abram and to bless those who blessed him. This was a powerful promise. It was a promise that extended beyond Abram and his immediate family. It was a promise that would impact generations to come. Yet, Abram did not let this promise go to his head. He did not become proud or arrogant. Instead, he remained humble and faithful. He served God in the midst of his blessing.

What can we learn from Abram's story?: We can learn that serving God is not always easy. It often involves sacrifice, uncertainty, waiting, and humility. Yet, in the midst of all this, we can also learn that serving God is rewarding. It brings blessings, not just for us, but for those around us as well.

Serving God is possible: Abram was not a superhero. He was an ordinary man, just like us. Yet, he was able to serve God in extraordinary ways. And so can we. All it takes is faith, trust, and a willingness to obey God's call, even in the midst of our strife.
