A Revival Marriage—Marriage God’s Way.
Ephesians 5:17-33NLT
17 Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. 18 Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, 19 singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. 20 And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Verse 17, Paul stresses the fact that every believer ought to ask for understanding and insight about the will of the Lord, and what He wants you to do.
And then in Ephesians 5, verse 18, Paul writes with urgency. He say’s, “Refuse to follow the pleasures of the flesh and its excesses, but instead, be filled with the spirit.
The verb suggest—Be filled with the spirit, means, be being filled—Leading a continue lifestyle of God’s spirit.
“This morning I stated, that our spiritual restoration and renewal, properly looks a lot like our marriages.” P.H
Verse 18-19, become our spiritual menu on how to continue this type of spiritual life.
Sing the Psalms—There so comforting. Begin with Psalm 23:1-6NKJV The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. 3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.
Psalm 37:1-11NKJV Do not fret because of evildoers, Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity. 2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, And wither as the green herb. 3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. 4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. 6 He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday. 7
Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass. 8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; Do not fret—it only causes harm. 9 For evildoers shall be cut off; But those who wait on the Lord, They shall inherit the earth. 10 For yet a little while and the wicked shall be no more; Indeed, you will look carefully for his place, But it shall be no more. 11 But the meek shall inherit the earth, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
Again, Ephesian 5:18 tells us to sing hymns.
When I think of hymns I think about our forefathers songs:
* Victory In Jesus.
* His eye Is On the Sparrow.
Amazing Grace.
Once more, verse 18 commands us to sing spiritual songs. Songs that move you. Songs that make you cry, or maybe songs that build your faith up.
And if that’s not enough—Ephesians 5:19 And give thanks for everything to God in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
In the caption of my Bible it say’s these words: Spirit-Guided Relationships: Wives and Husbands
In other words, If we really desire to be spirit guided, this guidance goes right in the middle of our relationships and marriages.
Ephesians 5:21TPT And out of your reverence for Christ be supportive of each other in love.
Notice that before Paul speaks to the wife, and then the husband, he points out that all submission should be carried out of reverence for our Lord Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 5:22TM Wives, understand and support your husbands in ways that show your support for Christ.
How do you submit? As unto the Lord.
Ephesians 5:23-24TM The husband provides leadership to his wife the way Christ does to his church, not by domineering but by cherishing. 24 So just as the church submits to Christ as he exercises such leadership, wives should likewise submit to their husbands.
How does Jesus submit to His church? The cross. Just as the song goes—The cross changes everything.
Verse 24 is saying—Just as Christ submitted, so also Wives ought to submit.
Ephesians 5:25-26TM Husbands, go all out in your love for your wives, exactly as Christ did for the church—a love marked by giving, not getting. 26 Christ’s love makes the church whole. His words evoke her beauty.
