Summary: The Call of God will lead you where the Will of God will keep you! God doesn’t have a person to waste. What are you going to do with the Call of God on your life?

Luke 9:1-6

The Call of God will lead you where the Will of God will keep you!

God doesn’t have a person to waste.

What are you going to do with the Call of God on your life?

The Call

V1 - Jesus equipped them for the task.

God will not call you somewhere that He is not willing to equip you for!

Power - Strength or Ability

Authority - The Right to use it

Enemy Targets

All devils; Diseases

V2 - He commissioned them!

Preach the Kingdom of God (The Gospel = Message of the Kingdom of God - V6)

Heal the Sick!

The Call of God to us today still includes these two commands!

Our primary purpose is to preach about Jesus and teach the Bible

The demonstration of the Spirit is what initially attracts the lost to Christ.

1 Corinthians 2:1-5

And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.

For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.

And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:

That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

If we are going to profess it we need to produce it!

A “Foundational Serving Lesson” was taught here by Jesus: God is our Source and Resource.

V3 - One should not become confused here by thinking that Jesus was teaching them that they should live poor.

Lesson: Jesus was teaching them to look to God for their supply.

V4 - Don’t be cumbered about with many lodgings. Just stay where you first enter.

Lesson 1: Where you stay is not nearly as important as what you do.

Lesson 2: Bouncing around could create competition with the faithful to house you. By staying in one place it aids in keeping focus on the Gospel.

V5 - If someone does not accept you, dust off your feet and move on.

Lesson 1: Time is to valuable to force feed people truths they are not really interested in learning.

Lesson 2: Search for hungry hearers!

Pray for those who are not interested that one day they will see their need for God. (Don’t be offended!)

Life Application

Questions to ask ourselves

What is the Call of God upon my life?

Am I allowing myself to be equipped and trained to be effective in this area?

Am I fulfilling the Call?

Understanding that time is short, How can I accelerate the Call of God and become more effective?

Live by faith!

Don’t get trapped in the natural desire for the acquisition of “things”.

Luke 12:15  And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

God will bring us our “things.”

Matthew 6:33  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
