Summary: We study 5 ways we can offend the Holy Spirit, and guard our hearts to avoid.

REIGN HOLY SPIRIT

By Wade Martin Hughes, Sr. Kyfingers@aol.com

Sin will always block free move of the Holy Spirit.

Sin can keep you away from the word of God.

The word of God will keep you from sin.

DEFINE SOME TERMS:

REIGN:

to possess; exercise sovereign power; rule; hold sway; predominant

REIN:

line/strap fastened to a bit in mouth; to control; restraining

influence/check; guiding power; complete freedom

RAIN:

TO FALL DOWN LIKE RAIN; FALLING DROPS FROM CLOUD; TO SEND/TOREIGN HOLY SPIRIT

RECEIVE.

We want the Holy Spirit to reign, rein, and rain on us.

There are 5 danger areas when dealing with the Holy Spirit, we must avoid these areas at all cost.

These areas many start as innocent, but they grow and become progressive worse.

The roots must be dealt with are we will yield to a more intense failure.

1. GRIEVE NOT SPIRIT:

Eph. 4:30-31 And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed

unto the day of redemption.

31: Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil

speaking, be put away from you, with all malice.

Grieve: distress, heavy, suffer, sorrow, deep sorrow, mishap, disaster

Grievance: reason for complaint

2. QUENCH NOT SPIRIT:

1 Thes. 5:19-20 Quench not the Spirit.

20: Despise not prophesying.

QUENCH: to put out; extinguish, subdue, suppress, destroy, to conquer,

reduce the intensity

3. RESIST NOT SPIRIT:

Acts 6:10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by

which he spake.

Resist: to withstand the force or fight the effect; opposition;

retarding effect

4. STRIVE NOT WITH THE SPIRIT:

STRIVE bitter conflict; fight, struggle

Gen. 6:3 And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man,

for that he also is flesh; yet his days shall be a hundred and twenty

years.

Psa. 51:11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not they Holy

Spirit from me.

1 Sam. 16:14 But the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and an evil

spirit from the Lord troubled him.

5. DANGER OF SPIRITUAL BLASPHEMY

BLASPHEMY

Mat. 12:31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall

be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Hold Ghost shall not be

forgiven unto men.

Blaspheme - curse, swear, to speak of or address irreverence, to put off -

procrastinate.

I am seeking Biblical wisdom on this subject of blasphemy? Is it premeditating sin? Or is it something totally different?

Can it be committed today? And how do you know if one might have committed this sin? Does Backsliding fit into this

somehow? How many times can a person backslide and come back to the Lord?

I have many questions but this one is the most important one to me. Thank you.

My reply: Wow, you can ask a very deep question. There is no easy answer. Let us ponder some important factors

regarding blasphemy? Some seem to never learn the difference of price, worth, and value? We must learn about sin’s cost.

Remember these 3 lines,

A. Sin will cost you more than you planned on paying.

B. Sin will keep you longer than you planned on staying.

C. Sin will take you farther than you planned on going.

OUR ENEMY IS A TERRIBLE FOE, MANY TIMES THE ENEMY WILL TRY TO PAINT A SINNER INTO

THE FALSE CORNER OF BLASPHEMY.

A person chooses sin and breaks the commandments of God, and the enemy will try to confuse the fallen

believer that there is no use, you are so dirty God refuses you! This is a lie!

As the writer of the question we started with, there is a condemnation not from God.

The Lord is FULL of GRACE and MERCY! Jesus made great provisions to restore and heal and mend the broken!

Jesus offers compassion and great forbearance, if one will repent and confess. There is a difference in being sorry

I got caught and real repentance.

WHEN THE ENEMY THROWS UP YOUR PAST, YOU THROW UP HIS FUTURE!

Psalms 34:18 The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
