Redeemed by the Blood
Hebrews 9:22 – "Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness."
Opening Prayer
Father God, thank You for drawing us here today. Open our eyes to Your truth about the blood of Jesus that makes a way for us. Help us grab hold of it for our real lives, work stress, hidden struggles, family mess, everything we're carrying. Speak through Your Word and let it hit home. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Introduction – "You Are Worth It"
Church, I want you to picture something. Jesus is looking at the cross. He sees the pain, the nails, the shame, the loneliness. And then He looks ahead and He sees you, your face, your story, your sins, your struggles. And He says, "You are worth it."
Some of you walked in today feeling like you are not worth much. Maybe people at work talk down to you. Maybe in your own family you feel like the last choice. Maybe your own thoughts tell you, "You always mess up. You'll never change. Why would God care about you?" But the message of the cross, the message of the blood, is the exact opposite. The blood of Jesus is God's loudest way of saying, "You matter to Me. You are worth it to Me."
Hebrews 9:22 says, "Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness." That's not just a religious phrase. That's God showing you how serious sin is, and how serious His love is. Today, I want to talk to you about what it really means to be redeemed by the blood, not just in church words, but in your real life.
1. Our Real Problem: Sin Separates
Before we talk about the blood, we have to be honest about the problem. The problem isn't just the job, the boss, the coworker who gossips, the bills that keep stacking up, or even the anxiety and depression you feel. All of that is real, but underneath all of it is this deeper issue the Bible calls sin.
Sin is not just "bad things we do." Sin is a condition. It's us living life on our own terms, pushing God to the side, saying "I've got this," and then wondering why we feel empty, guilty, or far from God. The Bible shows us that sin separates us from God, destroys peace, corrupts our hearts, and affects our relationships.
You see it at work: that person who always has to be right, or the one who talks behind people's backs. You see it in yourself: you want to do better, but you keep going back to the same habits. You say, "I'm done with this," and then you fall again. Church, that's not just personality. That's the power of sin. And a holy God must deal with sin. But here's the good news: God doesn't just judge sin; He makes a way to forgive it through the blood of Jesus.
2. God's Solution: The Blood of Jesus
Under the old covenant, animal sacrifices showed that sin was serious and a price had to be paid. But those sacrifices were never enough. Then Jesus came. He lived the life you and I could not live, perfect, sinless, obedient. He became the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
On that cross, His blood was poured out. Why blood? Because life is in the blood. Jesus gave His life in your place. Because sin deserves death, and Jesus took that death for you. So when you hear "the blood of Jesus," it means the price for your sin has been paid. The door back to God is open. The shame that tells you "you're dirty" no longer has the final say. When you put your faith in Jesus, His blood covers you. God doesn't see you through your worst mistake; He sees you through the blood of His Son, clean, forgiven, redeemed.
3. The Blood and Your Daily Life
Now let's bring this home. Some of you are saved, but you still walk around like you're condemned. You say, "I know Jesus forgave me," but you still punish yourself.
Let's talk about work. Maybe you've got that supervisor who just makes everything harder. They talk to you like you're less. They take credit for your work. On the outside, it's a work problem. But on the inside, the enemy uses it to stir up anger and resentment. The blood of Jesus speaks into that place. Because of the blood, your value is not set by a supervisor, a company, or a paycheck. Your identity is "redeemed," "loved," and "chosen." When you walk into that place, you are not just an employee; you are a redeemed child of God.
