Redeemed by Precious Blood 1 Peter 1:18-19

Introduction:

Today, we explore the profound truth of our redemption through the precious blood of Christ, as highlighted in 1 Peter 1:18-19. This passage reveals the ultimate price paid for our salvation and invites us to respond to this transformative truth.

"For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God." (1 Peter 1:18-19, NLT)

Point 1: The Costly Redemption

The opening verse of our passage underscores the high cost of our redemption—far beyond material wealth. We learn that our salvation required a ransom of immeasurable value: the precious blood of Jesus Christ. This divine transaction was not conducted with perishable riches but with the pure and sinless life of the Lamb of God.

"...and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross." (Colossians 1:20, NLT)

Ephesians 1:7 (NLT): "In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace."

This verse highlights the central theme of redemption through the blood of Christ. Our forgiveness and freedom from sin are made possible by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, demonstrating God's abundant grace and love.

Hebrews 9:12 (NLT): "With his own blood—not the blood of goats and calves—he entered the Most Holy Place once for all time and secured our redemption forever."

In Hebrews, we see the contrast between the temporary sacrifices of the Old Testament and the eternal redemption achieved by Christ's once-for-all sacrifice. His blood cleanses us completely and secures our eternal redemption.

Revelation 5:9 (NLT): "And they sang a new song with these words: 'You are worthy to take the scroll and break its seals and open it. For you were slaughtered, and your blood has ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.'"

In this heavenly scene, Jesus is praised for His redemptive work, which spans across all humanity. His sacrificial blood has the power to ransom and reconcile people from every corner of the earth, showcasing the universal scope of His salvation.

Point 2: The Sinless Sacrifice

The sacrificial nature of Christ's blood is central to our faith. Jesus, as the sinless and spotless Lamb, offered Himself willingly on our behalf to secure our redemption. His blood, shed on the cross, has the power to cleanse us from sin and reconcile us to God.

"But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin." (1 John 1:7, NLT)

Hebrews 9:14 (NLT): "Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds so that we can worship the living God. For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins."

The blood of Christ not only forgives but also purifies our consciences, enabling us to approach God with confidence and worship Him in purity and truth.

1 John 2:2 (NLT): "He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world."

Jesus is the ultimate atoning sacrifice, whose blood covers the sins of all humanity, offering reconciliation and salvation to everyone who believes.

Revelation 1:5-6 (NLT): "And from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father—to him be glory and power forever and ever! Amen."

These verses affirm Christ's redemptive work through His blood, which not only frees us from sin but also establishes us as His chosen people, called to serve and worship Him.

Point 3: Responding to Redemption

Understanding the profound price of our redemption compels us to respond with gratitude and devotion. We are called to live transformed lives, reflecting the holiness and love of Christ. As recipients of this great salvation, we are empowered to walk in freedom from sin and to proclaim the good news of redemption to others.

"For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body." (1 Corinthians 6:20, NASB)

Romans 12:1-2 (NLT): "And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect."
