Summary: To the skeptic who says "Why should I belive the Bible?" this message gives reasons for believing in the Holy Bible.
Intro: Many today place no trust in the Bible, feeling
it is no more important than any other religious book.
Someone once asked "Why should I beliieve the Bible?"
The following reasons are given in answer to that question:
WE SHOULD BELIEVE THE BIBLE: (Bible: the Book!)
I. BECAUSE OF ITS PURPOSE
A. To be a light to our pathway
B. To reveal God to us
C. To give US purpose..explain who we
are and why we’re here.
D. To convict, comfort, console, etc.
II. BECAUSE OF ITS PRESERVATION
A. This book has survived in unique form
throughout history...many attacks and
attempts to stop its continuation...
B. Yet miraculously, and because of the
Divine Purpose of God, it has withstood
the test of time.
C. Many "imitations" exist, but no "duplications"
D. God guided by His Inspiration the formulation
of this Book.. and its preservation and unity
exist only because of His Divine Inspiration.
E. So many different writers...from various time
spans...yet there is a CENTRAL THEME to the
Bible.
III. BECAUSE OF ITS PERSON
A. The Person: JESUS CHRIST!
B. This is THE PERSON about whom the Bible
is written.
C. You can trace the "scarlet thread" through
the Old Testament...pictures of Jesus.
D. In the New Testament, the Gospels record
His activities..His death, burial, and
Resurrection, His ascension, and His Promise
of Return. Paul’s writings explain, interpret
and help us apply the teachings resulting from
all Jesus has done and is doing for us. The
great book of Acts details the Acts of the
Holy Spirit in the early days of the church.
John and Revelation point out the promised
events of the future for us...and point to
the RETURN OF JESUS CHRIST.
E. To attempt to interpret the Bible apart from
Jesus Christ is an exercise in futility.
F. Jesus Christ: revealed the Father, and
revoked the Sin curse...making a way for all
who will believe and receive HIM to be saved.
IV. BECAUSE OF ITS POWER:
A. GIDEONS have many testimonies of the
power of the Scripture to be used in
bringing someone at the end of their rope
to the Lord. Military and Motel Bibles
have been powerful instruments in saving souls.
B. The Power of Scripture is rooted in the
Person of Jesus, the Person of the Holy Spirit,
and the very fact that this book is
God-Breathed (inspired).
C. It is powerful...to correct, to instruct,
to guide, to comfort, to show us hope in
a hopeless world.
CONCLUSION:
1. These are but a FEW reasons we should believe
the Bible.
2. I commend this book to you above all other
writings...because of its purpose,
its preservation, its Person, and its Power.
3. Begin reading it...God will do the rest!
