“Key To Victory” Luke 4:21-30

1. In order to win today I think Trust is important

• Each quarterback Tom Brady and Jared Golf has to trust offensive line to block so they can step up into the pocket, trust receivers to catch the ball, trust the system, Game plan

• In today’s reading the people need to Trust Jesus is He really who he says he is?“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor.

• Jesus says this who I am ? Do you believe me? I am anointed one, I am the consecrated one, chosen one, savior, I am God in Flesh. Isaiah has prophesied it this day the Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.

• Jesus is saying this is what I am going to do. Will you Trust me? He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor” (Luke 4:18-19).

2. Another key to victory in the Super Bowl is fan Response

• Noise will help one team perhaps, momentum can help,

• Voices in the Scripture said” first the fans here “they all spoke well of him”, then in verse 28 momentum the fans changed the entire synagogue were “filled with rage”

• Are we always a God Fan during the tough times as well as the good times?

• Does our lack of devotion, attendances, exemplify a person who is “filled with rage” maybe not rage but certainly a lack of desire to serve God, to seek God, or a lack of love for God?

3. Yet another key to Victory will be perhaps, some calls during the game

• Saints Cameron Jordan had on a tee shirt prior to the Pro Bowl after a non-call in Saints verses Rams “Blow whistles not games” Calls can create an advantage for one team.

• JESUS made a call in the synagogue to heal those whom God chose, the people didn’t like that call they say,“, "Do for us here in Nazareth what you did in Capernaum

• They wanted to have their lame, and blind, and sick, and lepers, healed and helped. They thought their own hometown should be the place where his miracles should be done.

• Jesus made the call to heal more so in other places than in his own home town Scripture say” Jesus could not do many miracles in his own hometown because of their lack of faith”.

4. How will Rams or Patriots respond to controversial calls or situations can help or hurt ?

• Jesus told the fans that God heals who , when and where God wants. The hometown folk didn’t like that

• Jesus said,“God sent the prophet Elijah to a starving Gentile widow rather than to a starving Hebrew widow.”

• The second story Jesus shared that Elisha was sent to heal the Gentile Naaman who had leprosy there. were many in Israel with leprosy in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed-only Naaman

• The people in the Nazareth congregation get Jesus’ point — that even though Jesus is a hometown boy, his fellow Nazarenes have no special first claim on his powers — and they don’t like it one bit. Real life controversial issues how will we respond?

• Fan Response after hearing this in text changed from love to hate “ they got up drove him out of town led him to the brow of the hill so they could hurl him off the cliff”

5. Remember key to Victory is Trust Jesus he knows best

• Fan Response is a key, Calls will be a key to victory ,

• A key to victory is How one responds to controversy (things or calls may not be going your way but keep playing the game).

• Jesus keeps playing 30But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way.

• To be the victor walk right through the crowds and be a follower of the way!

Luke 4:21-30 21He began by saying to them, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing." 22All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. "Isn't this Joseph's son?" they asked. 23Jesus said to them, "Surely you will quote this proverb to me: 'Physician, heal yourself!' And you will tell me, 'Do here in your hometown what we have heard that you did in Capernaum.'" 24"Truly I tell you," he continued, "no prophet is accepted in his hometown. 25I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah's time, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land. 26Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon. 27And there were many in Israel with leprosy in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed-only Naaman the Syrian." 28All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this. 29They got up, drove him out of the town, and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him off the cliff. 30But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way.
