1. Introduction

My dear brothers and sisters,

Tonight, we enter the Upper Room.

This is not just the beginning of the Passion…

This is the revelation of the Heart of Jesus.

Everything that Jesus does tonight is deliberate:

• Every word

• Every gesture

• Every action

He knows:

• His hour has come

• His suffering is near

• His disciples will fail

Yet… He chooses to love, to give, and to serve.

Tonight is not about sorrow.

It is about love expressed in three divine ways:

• Eucharist

• Priesthood

• Service

3. The Cry of the Human Heart

Every human heart longs for:

• A presence that never leaves

• A love that never fails

• A forgiveness that never ends

People ask:

👉 “Who will stay with me always?”

👉 “Who will love me even when I am unworthy?”

Tonight, Jesus answers:

“I will remain with you in the Eucharist.”

“I will serve you through the priesthood.”

“I will teach you how to love.”

4. The Message of Today’s Readings

A. First Reading: Exodus 12:1–8, 11–14 — The Passover

This is not just a story—it is God’s saving blueprint.

God commands Israel:

• Take a lamb without blemish

• Sacrifice it

• Apply its blood

• Eat it as nourishment

Three important elements:

1. The Lamb must be sacrificed

? Salvation requires sacrifice

2. The Blood must be applied

? Salvation must be personal

3. The Meal must be eaten

? Salvation must be received

This is prophetic.

Jesus fulfills all three:

• He is the Lamb of God

• His Blood saves us

• His Body becomes our food

👉 The Passover is not complete without eating the lamb.

👉 Likewise, salvation is not complete without the Eucharist.

B. Responsorial Psalm 116 — Thanksgiving and Covenant

“I will take the cup of salvation, and call on the name of the Lord.”

This Psalm is Eucharistic in spirit.

It speaks of:

• Gratitude

• Covenant

• Offering

When we celebrate the Eucharist:

• We lift the “cup of salvation”

• We enter into thanksgiving

• We renew our covenant

The Eucharist is not only sacrifice…

It is also thanksgiving (Eucharistia).

C. Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 11:23–26 — Institution of the Eucharist and Priesthood

This is the earliest written account of the Eucharist.

Listen carefully:

“This is my Body… This is my Blood… Do this in memory of me.”

Here, three profound realities emerge:

1. Institution of the Eucharist

Jesus does not say:

👉 “This represents my body”

He says:

👉 “This IS my Body.”

The Eucharist is:

• Real presence

• Real sacrifice

• Real communion

Jesus becomes:

• Our food

• Our strength

• Our life

2. Institution of the Priesthood

“Do this in memory of me.”

This is not just a suggestion.

It is a command.

Jesus entrusts this sacred mystery to His apostles.

Through this command:

• The priesthood is born

• The Eucharist continues through time

Every priest stands:

• Not on his own authority

• But in the person of Christ

👉 Without priesthood, no Eucharist.

👉 Without Eucharist, no Church.

3. Proclamation of the Mystery

“Whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord.”

The Eucharist is:

• A remembrance

• A participation

• A proclamation

Every Mass is Calvary made present.

D. Gospel: John 13:1–15 — Washing of the Feet (The New Commandment in Action)

This is the most shocking moment.

Jesus:

• Removes His outer garment

• Takes a towel

• Pours water into a basin

• Washes the feet of His disciples

This is not just humility.

This is a revolution of authority.

1. Authority Becomes Service

In the world:

• Authority dominates

In Christ:

• Authority serves

Jesus shows:

👉 True greatness = humble service

2. The Basin and the Towel

These are powerful symbols:

• Basin ? cleansing

• Water ? purification

• Towel ? personal involvement

Jesus is saying:

“If you want to follow me,

you must bend down.”

3. The New Commandment

Though expressed later in words:

“Love one another as I have loved you,”

Here, Jesus acts it out.

This love is:

• Not emotional

• Not selective

• Not convenient

It is:

👉 sacrificial

👉 humble

👉 unconditional

“We are called to be Another Christ”

👉 “My dear brothers and sisters, what Jesus has done tonight is not only to be admired… it is to be lived.”
