1. Introduction
My dear brothers and sisters,
Tonight, we enter the Upper Room.
This is not just the beginning of the Passion…
This is the revelation of the Heart of Jesus.
Everything that Jesus does tonight is deliberate:
• Every word
• Every gesture
• Every action
He knows:
• His hour has come
• His suffering is near
• His disciples will fail
Yet… He chooses to love, to give, and to serve.
Tonight is not about sorrow.
It is about love expressed in three divine ways:
• Eucharist
• Priesthood
• Service

3. The Cry of the Human Heart
Every human heart longs for:
• A presence that never leaves
• A love that never fails
• A forgiveness that never ends
People ask:
👉 “Who will stay with me always?”
👉 “Who will love me even when I am unworthy?”
Tonight, Jesus answers:
“I will remain with you in the Eucharist.”
“I will serve you through the priesthood.”
“I will teach you how to love.”

4. The Message of Today’s Readings
A. First Reading: Exodus 12:1–8, 11–14 — The Passover
This is not just a story—it is God’s saving blueprint.
God commands Israel:
• Take a lamb without blemish
• Sacrifice it
• Apply its blood
• Eat it as nourishment
Three important elements:
1. The Lamb must be sacrificed
? Salvation requires sacrifice
2. The Blood must be applied
? Salvation must be personal
3. The Meal must be eaten
? Salvation must be received
This is prophetic.
Jesus fulfills all three:
• He is the Lamb of God
• His Blood saves us
• His Body becomes our food
👉 The Passover is not complete without eating the lamb.
👉 Likewise, salvation is not complete without the Eucharist.

B. Responsorial Psalm 116 — Thanksgiving and Covenant
“I will take the cup of salvation, and call on the name of the Lord.”
This Psalm is Eucharistic in spirit.
It speaks of:
• Gratitude
• Covenant
• Offering
When we celebrate the Eucharist:
• We lift the “cup of salvation”
• We enter into thanksgiving
• We renew our covenant
The Eucharist is not only sacrifice…
It is also thanksgiving (Eucharistia).

C. Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 11:23–26 — Institution of the Eucharist and Priesthood
This is the earliest written account of the Eucharist.
Listen carefully:
“This is my Body… This is my Blood… Do this in memory of me.”
Here, three profound realities emerge:
1. Institution of the Eucharist
Jesus does not say:
👉 “This represents my body”
He says:
👉 “This IS my Body.”
The Eucharist is:
• Real presence
• Real sacrifice
• Real communion
Jesus becomes:
• Our food
• Our strength
• Our life

2. Institution of the Priesthood
“Do this in memory of me.”
This is not just a suggestion.
It is a command.
Jesus entrusts this sacred mystery to His apostles.
Through this command:
• The priesthood is born
• The Eucharist continues through time
Every priest stands:
• Not on his own authority
• But in the person of Christ
👉 Without priesthood, no Eucharist.
👉 Without Eucharist, no Church.

3. Proclamation of the Mystery
“Whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord.”
The Eucharist is:
• A remembrance
• A participation
• A proclamation
Every Mass is Calvary made present.

D. Gospel: John 13:1–15 — Washing of the Feet (The New Commandment in Action)
This is the most shocking moment.
Jesus:
• Removes His outer garment
• Takes a towel
• Pours water into a basin
• Washes the feet of His disciples
This is not just humility.
This is a revolution of authority.
1. Authority Becomes Service
In the world:
• Authority dominates
In Christ:
• Authority serves
Jesus shows:
👉 True greatness = humble service

2. The Basin and the Towel
These are powerful symbols:
• Basin ? cleansing
• Water ? purification
• Towel ? personal involvement
Jesus is saying:
“If you want to follow me,
you must bend down.”

3. The New Commandment
Though expressed later in words:
“Love one another as I have loved you,”
Here, Jesus acts it out.
This love is:
• Not emotional
• Not selective
• Not convenient
It is:
👉 sacrificial
👉 humble
👉 unconditional

“We are called to be Another Christ”
👉 “My dear brothers and sisters, what Jesus has done tonight is not only to be admired… it is to be lived.”
👉 “Jesus did not wash feet so that we may applaud Him…
He washed feet so that we may imitate Him.”
👉 “Through baptism, each one of us is called to become ‘another Christ’…”
👉 “Every baptised Christian is called to become another Christ—especially in humble service.”
• baptism is not just a ritual we received in the past…
it is a mission we must live every day.
• Through baptism,
we are not only made followers of Christ…
we are called to become “another Christ” (Alter Christus).
• What does it mean to be another Christ?
👉 To love when it is difficult
👉 To serve when it is inconvenient
👉 To forgive when it is painful
👉 To give without expecting anything in return
________________________________________
• Tonight, Jesus shows us what “another Christ” looks like:
o He takes bread ? and gives Himself
o He takes the cup ? and pours Himself out
o He takes the basin and towel ? and humbles Himself
👉 Therefore, to be another Christ means:
• to become Eucharistic (self-giving)
• to become priestly (offering our lives)
• to become servant-hearted (washing others’ feet)
________________________________________
👉 “If we receive Christ in the Eucharist but do not become Christ in service, we have not yet understood Holy Thursday.”
________________________________________
👉 In your family, be another Christ.
👉 In your workplace, be another Christ.
👉 In your parish, be another Christ.
Not by big miracles…
but by small acts of love and service.
________________________________________
👉 “The world may never read the Gospel…
but it will read your life.”
So, become the living Gospel… “another Christ.”

5. Key Biblical Verse
“Do this in memory of me.” (1 Corinthians 11:24)
This is:
• A command
• A mission
• A calling

6. Spiritual Symbolism
Tonight, three sacred symbols speak:
• Bread & Wine ? self-giving love
• Altar ? sacrifice
• Basin & Towel ? service
Christian life is incomplete if we choose one and ignore the others.

7. Witness of Faith
The greatest saints lived this mystery:
• At the altar ? Eucharistic devotion
• In life ? humble service
Many priests silently:
• Celebrate Mass daily
• Carry burdens
• Serve without recognition
Many faithful:
• Forgive
• Serve
• Love in hidden ways
________________________________________
8. Spiritual Diagnosis
Our problem is clear:
• We want Eucharist without sacrifice
• Priesthood without responsibility
• Authority without service
• Love without cost
We receive…
but do not become.

9. Spiritual Contrast & Divine Remedy
The Contrast
Human Way Christ’s Way
Authority Service
Pride Humility
Taking Giving
Comfort Sacrifice
The Remedy
Jesus gives us:
1. Eucharist ? transforms the heart
2. Priesthood ? sustains the Church
3. Service ? reveals true love

10. Pastoral Reflection
The Church is not just a building.
The Church is the Upper Room made present today.
It is here that:
• Bread becomes the Body of Christ
• Wine becomes His Blood
• Ordinary people become servants of love
The altar becomes a table of communion,
where no one is a stranger.
Here we are:
• fed like a family
• formed like disciples
• sent like missionaries
And just as in the Upper Room,
we cannot remain seated at the table.
We must rise…
Take the basin and the towel…
And go into the world.
The Church, therefore, is not only a place where we receive Christ—
it is a place where we learn to become like Christ.

11. Self-Examination
My dear brothers and sisters,
Let us examine ourselves:
• Do I truly believe in the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist?
• Do I respect and pray for priests?
• Do I use authority to serve or to dominate?
• Am I willing to humble myself?
• Do I love others as Jesus loves me?
________________________________________
12. The Call of the Hour
Today’s world needs:
• Eucharistic faith
• Holy priests
• Loving servants
Jesus calls us:
👉 Be people of the Eucharist
👉 Support and pray for priests
👉 Serve without pride
👉 Love without limits
________________________________________
13. Weekly Action
This week:
1. Spend time before the Blessed Sacrament
2. Pray for priests daily
3. Perform one hidden act of humble service
4. Forgive someone sincerely
________________________________________
14. The Echo and Take-Home Message
Let this echo in your heart:
👉 “Become what you receive.”
👉 “Authority is meant for service.”
👉 “Love is proven in action.”
________________________________________
15. Conclusion
Tonight, Jesus gives us everything:
• His Body
• His Blood
• His Priesthood
• His Commandment
He kneels before us.
He feeds us.
He loves us.
Now He asks:
👉 Will you do the same?
________________________________________
16. Prayer
Lord Jesus,
On this sacred night,
You gave us the Eucharist,
You gave us the priesthood,
You showed us the path of humble service.
Give us the grace:
• To believe deeply
• To serve humbly
• To love completely
Make us Eucharistic people,
Humble servants,
And true witnesses of Your love.
Stay with us, Lord.
Amen.
