1. Introduction: The Dawn That Changed History
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
👉 “Christ is risen—new life is possible.”
Today is not just another feast.
Today is the centre of our faith, the heart of Christianity, the victory of God over sin, darkness, and death.
If Christmas tells us God is with us,
Good Friday tells us God died for us,
Easter tells us: God lives—and we can live again!
This is the day the Church proclaims with joy:
“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad” (Psalm 118)
The tomb is empty.
The stone is rolled away.
Death is defeated.
Christ is risen!
But the real question is:
👉 Has Christ risen in our lives?

A pastor once visited a cemetery early on Easter Sunday.
Everything was silent. Still. Cold.
Then he saw a small child placing flowers on a grave.
The pastor asked,
“Why are you here so early?”
The child replied:
👉 “I came to tell my father that today is the day Jesus defeated death… so he should not be afraid anymore.”
Dear brothers and sisters,
That child understood Easter better than many adults.
👉 Easter is not about the dead remaining in the grave.
👉 It is about hope entering even the grave.

2. The Human Condition: The World Before Resurrection
Before we celebrate, we must understand what resurrection changes.
Without Christ’s resurrection, the world is:
• A place of fear
• A place of sin and guilt
• A place of broken relationships
• A place of hopeless endings
We see this even today:
• Families broken
• Youth confused
• Faith weakened
• Society divided
Without resurrection, life ends in a tomb.
👉 Easter is God’s answer to human despair.
👉 “Christ is risen—new life is possible.”

3. Gospel (John 20:1–9): The Journey from Seeing to Believing
This Gospel is not just a report of an empty tomb—it is a journey of faith.
1. “Early on the first day of the week… while it was still dark”
John is very intentional.
• It is early morning ? a new beginning
• It is still dark ? symbol of confusion, fear, and lack of faith
👉 This reflects the human condition:
Even after Jesus’ promises, the disciples are still in darkness.
Mary Magdalene represents all of us:
• We love Jesus
• But we do not yet fully understand Him

2. The Stone Rolled Away
Mary sees the stone removed.
Important point:
👉 The stone is not removed so Jesus can come out.
👉 It is removed so we can enter and believe.
This is powerful for preaching:
• God removes obstacles
• Not always to change situations
• But to open our understanding

3. Running of Peter and John
Two apostles run:
• John (the beloved disciple) arrives first
• Peter (the leader) enters first
This shows:
• Love runs faster
• Authority confirms the truth
👉 Faith in the Church involves both:
• Personal love (John)
• Apostolic authority (Peter)

4. The Linen Cloths
This is a very important detail.
If the body was stolen, the cloths would not be left neatly.
👉 This is not theft.
👉 This is a transformed, glorified body.
Jesus did not return to earthly life like Lazarus.
👉 He entered a new kind of life.

5. “He Saw and Believed”
John sees and believes.
But the Gospel adds:
“They did not yet understand the Scripture…”
This is very important:
👉 Faith often comes before full understanding.
In preaching, emphasize:
• We do not wait to understand everything
• We first trust—and then understanding grows

Preaching Insight
The Gospel invites us to move:
👉 From darkness ? to light
👉 From confusion ? to faith
👉 From seeing ? to believing

There is a famous comparison often used:
• The tomb of Buddha is occupied
• The tomb of Muhammad is occupied
• The tomb of great leaders is occupied
But:
👉 The tomb of Jesus is empty
And that changes everything.
Because:
• We do not follow a memory
• We do not follow a philosophy
• We follow a living person
👉 “Christ is risen—new life is possible.”

4. First Reading (Acts 10:34, 37–43): The First Easter Preaching of the Church
This passage is extremely rich. It is Peter’s proclamation in the house of Cornelius, a Gentile.
1. “God shows no partiality”
This is revolutionary.
• Salvation is not only for Jews
• It is for all nations
👉 Easter breaks every barrier:
• Race
• Culture
• Status
