1. Introduction: The Dawn That Changed History

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

👉 “Christ is risen—new life is possible.”

Today is not just another feast.

Today is the centre of our faith, the heart of Christianity, the victory of God over sin, darkness, and death.

If Christmas tells us God is with us,

Good Friday tells us God died for us,

Easter tells us: God lives—and we can live again!

This is the day the Church proclaims with joy:

“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad” (Psalm 118)

The tomb is empty.

The stone is rolled away.

Death is defeated.

Christ is risen!

But the real question is:

👉 Has Christ risen in our lives?

________________________________________

A pastor once visited a cemetery early on Easter Sunday.

Everything was silent. Still. Cold.

Then he saw a small child placing flowers on a grave.

The pastor asked,

“Why are you here so early?”

The child replied:

👉 “I came to tell my father that today is the day Jesus defeated death… so he should not be afraid anymore.”

Dear brothers and sisters,

That child understood Easter better than many adults.

👉 Easter is not about the dead remaining in the grave.

👉 It is about hope entering even the grave.

2. The Human Condition: The World Before Resurrection

Before we celebrate, we must understand what resurrection changes.

Without Christ’s resurrection, the world is:

• A place of fear

• A place of sin and guilt

• A place of broken relationships

• A place of hopeless endings

We see this even today:

• Families broken

• Youth confused

• Faith weakened

• Society divided

Without resurrection, life ends in a tomb.

👉 Easter is God’s answer to human despair.

👉 “Christ is risen—new life is possible.”

3. Gospel (John 20:1–9): The Journey from Seeing to Believing

This Gospel is not just a report of an empty tomb—it is a journey of faith.

1. “Early on the first day of the week… while it was still dark”

John is very intentional.

• It is early morning ? a new beginning

• It is still dark ? symbol of confusion, fear, and lack of faith

👉 This reflects the human condition:

Even after Jesus’ promises, the disciples are still in darkness.

Mary Magdalene represents all of us:

• We love Jesus

• But we do not yet fully understand Him

________________________________________

2. The Stone Rolled Away

Mary sees the stone removed.

Important point:

👉 The stone is not removed so Jesus can come out.

👉 It is removed so we can enter and believe.

This is powerful for preaching:

• God removes obstacles

• Not always to change situations

• But to open our understanding

________________________________________

3. Running of Peter and John

Two apostles run:

• John (the beloved disciple) arrives first

• Peter (the leader) enters first

This shows:

• Love runs faster

• Authority confirms the truth

👉 Faith in the Church involves both:

• Personal love (John)

• Apostolic authority (Peter)

________________________________________

4. The Linen Cloths

This is a very important detail.

If the body was stolen, the cloths would not be left neatly.

👉 This is not theft.

👉 This is a transformed, glorified body.

Jesus did not return to earthly life like Lazarus.

👉 He entered a new kind of life.

________________________________________

5. “He Saw and Believed”

John sees and believes.

But the Gospel adds:

“They did not yet understand the Scripture…”

This is very important:

👉 Faith often comes before full understanding.

In preaching, emphasize:

• We do not wait to understand everything

• We first trust—and then understanding grows

________________________________________

Preaching Insight

The Gospel invites us to move:

👉 From darkness ? to light

👉 From confusion ? to faith

👉 From seeing ? to believing

________________________________________

There is a famous comparison often used:

• The tomb of Buddha is occupied

• The tomb of Muhammad is occupied

• The tomb of great leaders is occupied

But:

👉 The tomb of Jesus is empty

And that changes everything.

Because:

• We do not follow a memory

• We do not follow a philosophy

• We follow a living person

👉 “Christ is risen—new life is possible.”

4. First Reading (Acts 10:34, 37–43): The First Easter Preaching of the Church

This passage is extremely rich. It is Peter’s proclamation in the house of Cornelius, a Gentile.

1. “God shows no partiality”

This is revolutionary.

• Salvation is not only for Jews

• It is for all nations

👉 Easter breaks every barrier:

• Race

• Culture

• Status

This is very relevant today.

________________________________________

2. Summary of Jesus’ Life

Peter summarizes Jesus’ mission:

• “He went about doing good”

• “Healing all who were oppressed”

👉 This shows:

Resurrection is connected to a life of goodness and service.

________________________________________

3. “They put Him to death… but God raised Him”

This is the core Christian message.

Notice the contrast:

• Human action ? killing

• Divine action ? raising

👉 Sin tries to destroy

👉 God restores and gives life

________________________________________

4. “He Appeared… to witnesses”

The resurrection is not a myth.

• Jesus appeared

• People saw Him

• They ate and drank with Him

👉 Christianity is based on witness, not imagination.

________________________________________

5. “We are witnesses”

Peter does not say:

“I heard about it.”

He says:

👉 “We are witnesses.”

This is crucial for preaching:

• Every Christian is called to be a witness

• Not just by words—but by life

________________________________________

6. “Forgiveness of sins through His name”

This is the fruit of Easter.

👉 Resurrection is not just victory over death

👉 It is victory over sin

This is where people connect deeply:

• Guilt

• Shame

• Broken past

Easter offers:

👉 A new beginning

________________________________________

Preaching Insight

This reading calls us:

👉 Not just to believe

👉 But to proclaim and witness

________________________________________

Pope John Paul II:

“Do not abandon yourselves to despair. We are the Easter people and hallelujah is our song.”

This is powerful for repetition:

👉 We are the Easter people!

👉 Hallelujah is our song!

👉 “Christ is risen—new life is possible.”

________________________________________

5. Second Reading (Colossians 3:1–4): The Spiritual Consequences of Resurrection

This reading tells us:

👉 If Christ is risen, your life must change.

________________________________________

1. “If you have been raised with Christ…”

This refers to Baptism.

Through baptism:

• We died with Christ

• We rose with Christ

👉 Easter is not only about Jesus

👉 It is about us

________________________________________

2. “Seek what is above”

This does not mean ignoring the world.

It means:

• Live with higher values

• Focus on eternal truth

👉 Not:

• Only money

• Only success

• Only pleasure

But:

• God

• Truth

• Love

________________________________________

3. “Set your minds on things above”

Two levels:

• External life

• Internal mindset

👉 Transformation begins in the mind.

If the mind is not changed:

• Life will not change

________________________________________

4. “You have died”

This is radical.

• The old self must die

• Sin must die

• Ego must die

👉 Many want resurrection…

But do not want death to sin.

________________________________________

5. “Your life is hidden with Christ”

This means:

• Our true identity is spiritual

• The world may not recognize it

But God sees it.

________________________________________

6. “You will appear with Him in glory”

This is the final hope.

👉 Resurrection is not only present

👉 It is also future

We are moving toward:

• Eternal life

• Eternal glory

________________________________________

Preaching Insight

This reading challenges:

👉 Do not celebrate Easter emotionally only

👉 Live it practically

________________________________________

In places affected by war—like parts of Ukraine, the Middle East, and Africa—Christians still gather on Easter.

Even in damaged churches, even without electricity, even in fear…

They still proclaim:

👉 “Christ is risen!”

Why?

Because:

👉 When everything else is destroyed,

👉 Resurrection hope cannot be destroyed.

👉 “Christ is risen—new life is possible.”

________________________________________

6. Responsorial Psalm 118: The Song of Resurrection Victory

This Psalm is the song of Easter joy.

1. “This is the day the Lord has made”

Not just any day.

👉 The day of victory

👉 The day of salvation

________________________________________

2. “The stone rejected… has become the cornerstone”

This refers to Jesus.

• Rejected by people

• Chosen by God

👉 God can turn rejection into glory

Apply this pastorally:

• Your failures

• Your rejection

• Your suffering

Can become:

👉 Your strength in God

________________________________________

3. “His mercy endures forever”

Easter is the proof of God’s mercy.

• Even after sin

• Even after rejection

God still loves and restores.

________________________________________

Preaching Insight

This Psalm invites us to:

👉 Rejoice

👉 Trust

👉 Hope

👉 “Christ is risen—new life is possible.”

________________________________________

7. The Spiritual Meaning of Easter

Easter is not only about Jesus coming out of the tomb.

It is about:

1. Light overcoming darkness

2. Life overcoming death

3. Grace overcoming sin

4. Hope overcoming despair

But most importantly:

👉 God is opening a new future for humanity

________________________________________

A man addicted to alcohol for many years once attended an Easter vigil.

He said:

“I came just to sit. I did not believe anything would change.”

But when he heard:

👉 “Christ is risen—new life is possible”

Something touched him.

He went for confession after many years.

His life changed.

Later he said:

👉 “That night, I realized the tomb was not in Jerusalem… the tomb was inside me.”

👉 “Christ is risen—new life is possible.”

________________________________________

8. Biblical Foundation: Resurrection Throughout Scripture

The resurrection is not accidental—it is God’s plan.

• In Genesis, life begins after chaos

• In Exodus, freedom comes after slavery

• In the Prophets, restoration comes after exile

• In the Gospel, life comes after death

Easter fulfills everything.

________________________________________

9. Spiritual Symbolism of the Empty Tomb

The empty tomb is a powerful sign:

1. The stone is rolled away

👉 God removes obstacles we cannot remove

2. The tomb is empty

👉 Death has no final power

3. The linen cloths remain

👉 It was not theft—it was transformation

4. The silence of the tomb

👉 God works even when we do not understand

________________________________________

A caterpillar crawls on the ground.

It enters a cocoon—looks like death.

But then:

👉 It comes out as a butterfly.

• Same being

• But totally transformed

That is resurrection:

👉 Not just coming back

👉 But becoming new

👉 “Christ is risen—new life is possible.”

________________________________________

10. Witness of Faith: The Saints and Resurrection Living

The saints lived as resurrection people:

• They forgave when it was hard

• They loved when it was painful

• They hoped when everything seemed lost

They believed:

👉 The resurrection is not just future—it begins now.

________________________________________

Saint Mother Teresa

“God has not called me to be successful. He has called me to be faithful.”

Connect it to Easter:

👉 Faithfulness leads to resurrection.

👉 Even when success is not visible.

👉 “Christ is risen—new life is possible.”

________________________________________

11. Spiritual Diagnosis

Let us examine ourselves.

👉 Are we still living in the tomb?

• Tomb of sin?

• Tomb of addiction?

• Tomb of anger?

• Tomb of despair?

• Do I truly believe Christ is risen?

• Has my life changed?

• Am I still living like before?

Many Christians celebrate Easter…

But continue to live like Good Friday.

________________________________________

After tragic violence in some parts of the world, there are families who publicly forgive those responsible.

People ask:

“How can you forgive?”

Their answer:

👉 “Because Christ forgave from the Cross… and rose again.”

This is resurrection in action.

👉 “Christ is risen—new life is possible.”

12. Illustration

A man was trapped in a deep well.

He cried for help.

Many passed by and gave advice—but no one helped.

Finally, someone jumped into the well.

The man said, “Why did you jump? Now both of us are stuck!”

The person replied:

👉 “I came because I know the way out.”

That is Jesus.

He entered our death…

to bring us into life.

________________________________________

13. Self-Examination

A man once kept a bird in a cage.

Every day, the bird sang.

One day, the cage door was opened.

But the bird did not fly.

Why?

👉 It had become used to the cage.

Many Christians are like that.

👉 Christ has opened the tomb…

👉 But we are still inside.

Reflect deeply:

• What is the “stone” in my life?

• What is the “tomb” I am trapped in?

• What sin keeps me buried?

👉 Do I truly want resurrection?

👉 “Christ is risen—new life is possible.”

________________________________________

14. The Call of the Hour

👉 “Christ is risen—new life is possible.”

Easter calls us to:

1. Rise from sin

2. Renew our faith

3. Restore relationships

4. Rebuild our lives

Do not remain in the tomb.

👉 Come out. Live again.

________________________________________

Today many young people:

• Have education

• Have technology

• Have opportunities

But still feel empty.

Why?

👉 Because without Christ, the heart remains a tomb.

Easter answers this:

👉 True life is not outside—it is within, with Christ.

________________________________________

15. The Echo and Take-Home Message

👉 “Christ is risen—new life is possible.”

Take this message home:

👉 The tomb is empty—so your life need not remain empty.

👉 Christ is risen—so your past does not define you.

👉 New life is possible—starting today.

________________________________________

16. Practical Application: Living Easter Daily

This week:

1. Begin each day with hope

2. Forgive someone who hurt you

3. Spend time in prayer

4. Participate in the Eucharist deeply

5. Help someone in need

👉 Live as a resurrection person.

________________________________________

17. Conclusion: From the Tomb to Transformation

👉 “Christ is risen—new life is possible.”

St. Augustine:

“We are an Easter people, and Alleluia is our song.”

Repeat it slowly for effect.

________________________________________

Easter is not the end of the story.

It is the beginning.

• The stone is rolled away

• The tomb is empty

• Christ is alive

Now the question is:

👉 Will you remain in the tomb…

👉 Or will you rise with Christ?

________________________________________

A missionary once asked a dying man:

“Are you afraid?”

The man replied:

👉 “No. Because the One who defeated death is waiting for me.”

That is Easter faith.

________________________________________

Do not go back to darkness.

Do not live in fear.

Do not remain in sin.

Christ is risen.

And because He lives:

• You can begin again

• You can be transformed

• You can live in hope

👉 “Christ is risen—new life is possible.”

________________________________________

18. Prayer

Risen Lord Jesus,

You conquered sin and death

And opened the way to a new life for us.

Enter our hearts today.

Remove the stones in our lives.

Bring us out of our tombs.

Heal our wounds.

Strengthen our faith.

Renew our hope.

Make us true witnesses of Your Resurrection.

Let our lives proclaim:

👉 You are alive.

We ask this in Your holy name.

Amen.
