Psalm 19 Pt. II

Verses 1-6 – General Revelation

 When you look into the heavens although they can’t speak they declare the existence of God – A Supreme Being, far greater than mankind

 It’s through this revelation that people all over the world with diverse backgrounds and cultures declare there is a God.

 But to declare there is a God or just affirm there is a God or mentally assent to His existence is not good enough.

James 2:19 – The devils believe there is one God and tremble!

Out of this Revelation alone we get the following;

1. Powerless Living

God stays out in the universe and never violates my life.

2. Compromised Values

There is no standard to measure against except you.

3. Distortion of the Truth

 I am a good person

 I don’t hurt anyone

 I have God in my own way

 You don’t need to ________ to be a Christian

 Refusal of anything absolute other than there are no absolutes

Out of this revelation we create a God we can manage

Verses 7 –10 – Specific Revelation

As we pursue to get to know Him we find out that His –

 Law is perfect – Converting the soul

1. There is power in submitting to His Word –

Power to convert

2. His word applied to my life can dramatically change me

3. His word transforms my way of thinking.

Romans 12: 2

4. Some of the first things I realize is

 I in myself am no good

 In my present state I do hurt others

 I can’t have God in my own way

 I do have to do certain things if I am a Christian

 There are absolutes

 Statutes are right – Rejoicing the heart

There is nothing more satisfying than knowing you are doing the right thing. And the right thing is not because you said or deemed it to be the right thing. It’s because you humbled yourself and did what God has set to be the right thing.

Dr. Laura’s staple saying: Now Go Do The Right Thing!

Why do people call her – They are miserable

Their life is a wreck

They have been doing things their way the way they think it should go.

Result – Miserable Unhappy Lives

Statutes – Teach me how to rightly relate to others

The rules of the game

Result = Rejoicing in the heart

A Content life

 Testimony is sure – Making the simple wise

1. Established fact

2. Case History

3. Solemn Affirmation

It’s your life experience as a result of applying or not applying God’s Word that tells you - This Works It’s True

 Commandments are pure – Enlightening the eyes

1. They turn the light on

2. They are revelatory

WHY?

Because they are PURE!

 Not tainted

 Not slanted

 They don’t break down under pressure

 They don’t wear out with use

 They cannot be contaminated

 Fear of the Lord is clean – Enduring forever

Do you want longevity as a Christian than Fear God

Why do people backslide and walk away from their relationship with God? – They don’t fear Him!

Clean living is only obtained by Fearing God

 Judgements are true – Righteous altogether

1. God’s deductions or decrees on a matter are righteous

2. They may not seem fair to us but they are right

3. The problem is people in or society are seeking fairness rather than righteousness

They are righteous altogether. All of God’s judgements united working together are righteous. We get into trouble when we want to pick and choose which apply.

Psalm 119:160 – Thy word is truth

John 17:17

Jesus said I am the Way the Truth – John 14: 6

The Word was made flesh – John 1:14

The Word of God - The Scripture – The Bible is how we get beyond the General Revelation

It doesn’t just contain truth

It doesn’t just talk about truth

It doesn’t just speak of truthful things

IT IS TRUTH!

It is our sole source of faith and absolute rule of conduct.

Verses 10 – 11 – Transitional Truths

To go from a Specific to a Spiritual Revelation

All of these need to be –

 Desired more than Gold

Passion for

Godly lust for

 Sweeter than the honeycomb

Keeping them –

 We are Warned

Given instruction

Taught

Cautioned

Admonished

 Great Reward

Abundance of Compensation

James 1: 13 –15

Draw away – To Drag

Lust – Longing for what is forbidden

Enticed – Entrap

Conceived – Arrested, Captured, Take hold or Become pregnant
