God, as the divine gardener, prunes away unhealthy and unfruitful areas of our lives to promote growth and fruitfulness. Embracing this process, though sometimes painful, leads to a deeper relationship with God and spiritual growth.
Today we're going to talk about pruning. You know how a gardener trims a plant to help it grow better? Well, God does that with us too. He helps us grow by cutting away the stuff in our lives that's holding us back. Our main Scripture for today is John 15:1-5.
Object Lesson: Bring in a small potted plant and a pair of scissors. Show the plant to the group and explain that sometimes, plants need to be pruned to grow healthier and stronger. Cut off a dead or overgrown part of the plant while explaining that this is what God does in our lives.

[Read passage]
So, Jesus tells us in John 15 that He's the vine and we're the branches. That means we need to stay connected to Him to grow and be fruitful. And God, our heavenly Father, is like the gardener who prunes us so we can grow even more.
Now, pruning isn't always fun, right? I mean, it can be painful to let go of things we're used to or things we think we need. But God knows what's best for us, and He wants us to grow into the amazing people He created us to be.
In Hebrews 12:1, we're told to lay aside every weight and sin that slows us down in our race of faith. That's what pruning is about - getting rid of the stuff that's holding us back so we can run our race well.
So, what are some things in our lives that might need pruning? Maybe it's a bad habit, a toxic friendship, or even a good thing that's taking up too much of our time and keeping us from focusing on God. Whatever it is, we need to trust that God knows what He's doing and that pruning will help us grow.
This week, take some time to think and pray about what might need pruning in your life. Ask God to show you what's holding you back and to help you let go of it. Remember, staying connected to Jesus, the vine, is the key to growing and bearing good fruit.
Let's pray together:
"God, thank You for being our divine gardener and for wanting us to grow and be fruitful. Help us to trust You when You prune our lives, even when it's painful. Show us what we need to let go of, and help us to stay connected to Jesus, our vine. Amen."
