WE NEED SOME DREAMERS TO ARISE!
By Wade Martin Hughes, Sr. Kyfingers@aol.com
I. WE NEED DREAMERS IN OUR FAMILIES AND IN OUR CHURCHES. GOD HAD A PLAN AND LIFTED UP JOSEPH TO DREAM AND SUSTAIN HIS FAMILY.
A. Jacob married Leah and worked another 7 years to marry Rachel. Joseph had 11 brothers.
B. Joseph had 10 half brothers by Jacob and Leah.
And Jacob wife Rachel was his true love, they had two sons.
Joseph had 1 whole brother, Benjamin.
Genesis 37:4 And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably
unto him.
C. Remember at best Jacob’s family was dysfunctional.
But God had a plan for dysfunctional homes.
Genesis 37:5 And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more.
D. PART OF GOD’S PLAN WAS TO RAISE UP A DREAMER FROM WITHIN THE FAMILY.
II. HERE COMES THE DREAMER?
DREAMERS NEED GODLY WISDOM AND SPIRITUAL TACT!
What the brothers meant as negative, was going to be the source of refuge and resource to sustain the whole family.
A. Joseph was 17 years old, and was mouthy and practiced self-edification.
Being the 11th son of 12 was within itself a big problem.
Genesis 37:19 And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh.
B. Joseph was a KEY in his family, he would be a GAPSTANDER FOR THEM ALL.
C. WE SHALL SEE WHAT WILL COME OF HIS DREAMS.
Genesis 37:20 Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, Some evil beast hath devoured him: and we shall see what will
become of his dreams.
D. SOMETIMES THE LIFT OUT OF THE WELL IS NOT WHAT WE EXPECTED. BUT WE MUST DREAM ON --- HOPE ON --- AND FIND JOY IN THE MENIAL!
E. IMAGINE JOSEPH’S DESCRIPTION OF HIS DREAM AT 17?
THEN WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN JOSEPH’S DREAMS 13 YEARS LATER.
AT 30 JOSEPH HAD BECOME A WISE DREAMER.
WHAT DREAMS MIGHT BECOME US?
III. VERY LITTLE IN LIFE CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED WITHOUT OPTIMISM, HOPE, ENTHUSIASM AND JOY!
Humans are the only varmints that set their own traps and then put their necks in the very trap they just set?
A. I would like us to consider more than just dreaming, it is OK to loose a dream,
if we pick up a new dream.
B. THERE ARE TWO BASIC APPROACHES OR ATTITUDES IN LIFE.
1. OPTIMISM:
Inclined to be full of hope and confidence.
A theory that good will prevail over bad.
Positive, constructive thinking.
Cheerful, good spirits, pleasant, bright.
2. PESSIMISM:
Gloomy, dreary, miserable.
The tendency to expect the worst.
The belief that all things will be gloomy.
Defeatism --- ready to accept defeat as a norm.
Negativity in attitude.
Discouragement
Cynicism --- a person with little to no faith in people or God.
THERE ARE MORE THAN JUST NEGATIVE THINKING PATTERNS ---
THERE ARE WRONGFUL THINKING PATTERNS --- AND THIS
PESSIMISM BECOMES PRISONS THAT LIMIT GOD IN US.
C. MISERY LOVES COMPANY!
D. BLESSED IS HE WHO EXPECTS NOTHING, FOR HE SHALL RECEIVE EXACTLY WHAT HE EXPECTED.
E. We are headed toward great pain and many days in the desert if we loose our dreaming ability!
F. Why did the children of Israel spend 40 years in the desert?
The Bible answers this:
Numbers 14:34 After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.
G. IN THE LONG TERM THE PESSMISTIC PERSON MAY BE RIGHT, BUT THE OPTIMIST WILL ENJOY THE JOURNEY ALOT BETTER.
IV. WHERE THERE IS NO WOOD THE FIRE GOES OUT!
WE NEED TO DREAM A NEW DREAM OF HOPE AND ENCOURAGEMENT!
A. One of the saddest cases in human history has to be when God’s people loose all hope and joy and the enemy steals our DREAMING ABILITY.
Proverbs 26:20 Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.
21 As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.
B. DO WE DARE TO DREAM? Have you ever written down your dream?
Do you verbalize your dreams?
V. ESTABLISH A LABOR OF LOVE!
HOW DO ANTS ACCOMPLISH WORK?
Proverbs 6:6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
A. MANY THINGS IN THIS WORLD HAPPEN BECAUSE SOMEONE CAME UP WITH A THOUGHT --- AND GAVE THE ORDER THAT OTHERS HAD TO FOLLOW, AND THEN ACCOMPLISH THE GOAL.
B. The ANT is a different creature. God’s word knew we in the church need to study the ANT, and apply the lessons to our hearts.
In a colony of ants there are no kings or queens as in may social beings.
There is a queen ant, but she is not a boss handing out directional orders for other ants to follow.
A queen ant has wings and lays the eggs in the colony, but she is not a rule setting, order giving director.
C. HOW DOES AN ANT ACCOMPLISH WORK?
One ant sees a need and starts to do the work that is needed.
Let’s say the ant sees the need to build a tunnel to lead in a new direction?
The ant starts my moving one grain of sand.
Then the ant returns and picks up another grain of sand and carries it away.
Then another trip, and another trip.
The little ant starts getting excited, and in it’s excitement it starts to shake.
As the little ant starts shaking --- it starts producing a sweet smelling substance.
The other ants smell this sweet fragrance and notice what the other ant is doing.
Some other ant joins in the work.
Then another ant, and the next thing you know many ants have joined in the labor of love.
By morning the work has been accomplished --- what seemed impossible.
D. WHAT IF ONE ANT WAS ALWAYS WAITING ON ANOTHER ANT?
WHAT IF THE ANTS WERE WAITING FOR A SYSTEM TO ASSIGN DUTIES AND GIVE ORDERS?
WHAT IF ONE ANT NEVER GOT EXCITED?
E. Our God is waiting on someone to arise and get excited.
VI. IS IT PURE STUPIDITY TO WANT THINGS TO BE DIFFERENT AND KEEP DOING THINGS THE SAME OLD WAY?
IS IT STUPID TO KEEP TALKING THE SAME NEGATIVE OPINIONS AND EXPECT A POSITIVE OUTCOME?
A. CAN WE RELEASE AND ENCOURAGE GOD’S PLAN AND PURPOSE IN OUR FAMILY AND CHURCH?
B. I once read where a great sculptor had unveiled his master piece in marble.
It was a full size horse. The nostrils were perfect. Even the veins in the horses neck were raised.
A student standing near by said, MASTER, HOW DID YOU DO IT?
The sculptor replied, IT WAS EASY, I PICKED UP MY HAMMER AND CHISEL AND KNOCKED OFF EVERYTHING THAT DIDN’T LOOK LIKE A HORSE.
D. THOSE THAT SAY IT CAN’T BE DONE --- WILL BE PASSED BY THOSE DOING IT!
E. STIR:
To cause to move around
To begin in motion or action.
To inspire or excite.
To stimulate the interest of others.
TO MOTIVATE!
An incentive to stimulate great output.
NOT ALL STIRRING IS POSITIVE!
Proverbs 15:1 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.
VII. WE NEED THE IDEA OF REVEILLE, --- THE OPENING OF OUR EYES, --- TO WAKE UP, TO LIFT UP THE DREAMING ABILITY OF GOD’S PEOPLE.
A. Have we developed the goal to make good, to help, to hold, to strengthen and encourage the dream?
B. How do I see myself?
How do I see others?
How do I see God the Father?
C. DOES THE PAST HAVE TO DICTATE TO THE FUTURE?
D. CAN WE ONLY IMAGINE ---
Can you imagine yourself succeeding at what God has called you to do?
Can I see me without the stupidity of my limitations?
Can I see I am the one in the drivers seat?
Can I see how important my daily choises and decision can be on what God has
planned for me?
VIII. DO I ACCEPT MY ROLE AS AN IGNITER? WILL I FAN THE FLAME?
2 Tim. 1:6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
2 Peter 1:13 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;
2 Peter 3:1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
A. Some look at today and say: WHY?
I think we must look at our dreams and say: WHY NOT?
B. God wants to bring hope and joy to our minds and spirits, to let us know that He is not finished.
God desires to comfort His people with a NEW HOPE!
C. THERE IS PROPHETIC POWER
YOU SAY YOU CAN’T? --- YOU ARE PROBABLY RIGHT.
YOU SAY YOU CAN? --- YOU ARE PROBABLY RIGHT.
1 Samuel 30:6 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and
for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.
D. HAVE WE GIVEN CREDENCE --- BELIEF TO THE NEGATIVE PITFALLS AROUND US?
E. Are we imprisoned by the traps of failure and doom and gloom?
Will we release words of life to bring victory, possibilities, joy, hope, love, health, to our dreams and vision?
F. Do not fall for the bait of the traps of negativism, DREAM AND DREAM AGAIN.
DREAM BIG.
GOD WILL MEET US AT OUR LEVEL OF EXPECTATION!
