Compassion— Various Scripture
Compassion, this is a word or action that many people do not have or use
Throughout the Old Testament we see the compassion of God
Throughout the New Testament we see the same compassion in His Son, Jesus Christ
This morning, we will see in different passages where Jesus shows compassion
I. Luke 19:41, “When He approached Jerusalem, He saw the city and wept over it”
II. Matthew 9:36, “Seeing the people He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd.”
III. Matthew 14:14, “When He went ashore, He saw a large crowd, and felt compassion for them and healed their sick.”
IV. Many of the parables of Jesus shows His compassion
V. Paul also showed compassion
Galatians 6:2 “Bear one another’s burdens…” (Compassion)
Colossians 3:12, “So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience”
VI. Lastly, look with me at the shortest and has to be the most compassionate verse in the Bible
John 11:35, “Jesus wept”
This is where Lazarus had died and Jesus saw Mary weeping
Conclusion:
Compassion! How much do you have for the lost? How much do you have for other believers? Look to the person next to you or across the room. How much compassion do you have for them?
Look at how much compassion God has for us, so much that He sent His only begotten Son to die on a cross for our sins. John 3:16
Jesus had so much compassion for the lost that He took upon Himself the sins of the world. He willingly stretch out His arms on a cross and died for all who believed in Him.
