I HAVE FALLEN AND I CAN’T GET UP?
DO YOU WANT TO GET UP?
By Wade Martin Hughes, Sr. Kyfingers@aol.com
I. I HAVE FALLEN --- WE HAVE HEARD THE COMMERCIAL PHRASE: HELP ME! I HAVE FALLEN AND I CAN’T GET UP.
A. Falling down and staying down is not a spiritual truth.
B. See, in Jesus Christ ---YOU CAN GET UP --- IF YOU WANT TO --- IT IS ALL ABOUT WANT TO...
C. IF YOU HAVE FALLEN THERE WILL ALWAYS BE SOME HOLIER THAN THOU PEOPLE THAT MIGHT WHISPER ABOUT YOUR BLACK SPOT?
D. Those whispers are a consequence of making poor choices.
Don’t get mad at those that whisper of the past, forget their ignorance ---
they are not perfect and they will have to come and repent and seek forgiveness just like we have? Or they will go to hell with the unforgiven?
Luke 6:37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:
F. JESUS WAS A FRIEND OF SINNERS.
Jesus loves the fallen.
When all your other friends will walk out, Jesus will walk in and love you!
II. HAVE YOU EVER NOTICED HOW CRUEL AND MEAN PEOPLE CAN BE IF THEY ARE NOT THE PERSON KNOCKED DOWN?
A. THERE ARE TWO BLIND MEN, THEY HEAR JESUS IS COMING.
THERE IS A GREAT DANGER THE BLIND MEN WILL MISS JESUS?
B. WHY DID NOT SOME PERSON GRAB THE BLIND MEN AND TAKE THEM TO JESUS? WHY DO THE PEOPLE TELL THEM TO BE QUIET?
C. SOMETIMES WHEN YOU ARE DOWN, YOU HAVE TO PUT FORTH THE EFFORT TO GET UP!
D. Don’t wait for someone else to help you! GET UP!
Matthew 20:30 And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.
31 And the multitude rebuked them, because they should hold their peace: but they cried the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.
E. JESUS DID NOT GO TO THE MEN, JESUS REQUIRED THE MEN TO EXERT EFFORT, YOU COME TO ME!
Matthew 20:32 And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I shall do unto you?
33 They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.
34 So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.
F. WHAT DO YOU WANT?
DO YOU WANT TO GET UP?
III. HOW MANY TIMES MUST I RUN UP THE MOUNTAIN?
ELIJAH WAS LIVING IN A TERRIBLE DROUGHT --- WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO?
A. THE KING AND QUEEN HAVE BLAMED THE PREACHER FOR THE DRY SPELL?
B. WHAT WILL YOUR ATTITUDE BE DURING DRY SPELLS?
1 Kings 18:43 And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.
C. SEVEN TIMES? WHY? THERE IS A LITTLE CLOUD?
1 Kings 18:44 And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not.
D. ELIJAH IT IS TIME TO GET UP AND RUN!
E. ELIJAH RAN 18 MILES FASTER THAN THE KINGS CHARIOT.
1 Kings 18:46 And the hand of the Lord was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.
IV. I HAVE FALLEN DO I WANT TO GET UP --- HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO GET UP AND TRY?
A. THERE WAS A GOOD JEWISH LAW PRACTICED DAILY ---
WHEN A PERSON IS WRONG FOR THEM TO COME 7 TIMES A DAY
FOR FORGIVENESS.
B. JESUS ENLARGES THIS TEACHING ON FORGIVENESS TO THE N’TH DEGREE. (The N’th degree is to what ever point is necessary to bring about
the conclusion.)
Matthew 18:22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.
C. 7x70=490 a day
7x70x7=3430 a week
7x70x30=14,700 a month
D. I HAVE A DEAR PREACHER FRIEND WITH OVER 50 YEARS OF PULPIT MINISTRY, HIS NAME IS LORIE VANNUCCI.
Lorie says: There is a rare beauty in the 7 x 70 law...
LORIE SAYS A PERSON THAT WOULD GET UP AFTER FALLING 490 TIMES A DAY AND ASK FOR FORGIVENESS IS A BEAUTIFUL AND RARE PERSON.
V. I ONCE TAUGHT A LESSON ABOUT FORGIVENESS, AND I SAID THERE CAN BE CONSEQUENCES FOR DOING WRONG EVEN IF WE ARE FORGIVEN.
A. A women in the crowd was upset and spoke up, that I was wrong. She stated once you are forgiven there are no consequences of sin.
B. I gently disagreed. I wish she was right, but that is not Biblical.
I said, If a young woman is pregnant and not married and she asks Jesus to forgive her, and she accepts that forgiveness, does she get UNPREGNANT?
Of course not, she has consequences to bear.
C. If a man has chosen homosexually and has been infected with the dreaded AIDS virus and is dying?
If he confesses, repents, and turns from his evil ways, God accepts him as a sinner saved by grace, does the disease of AIDS GO AWAY JUST BECAUSE
HE REPENTED?
Of course not.
D. A man is on drugs, he is so high that he takes a loaded gun and points it at his wife and shoots and kills her?
He wakes up in jail and realizes his terrible sin of drugs and murder, so he cries and repents and accepts forgiveness, --- so his dead wife will come back to life?
No, the consequences is still there, she is dead.
E. Just because we love Jesus does not necessarily take away the consequences of poor choices and sin.
This is why we should avoid the black dots and sins and weights and build on wisdom and a sure foundation.
1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the
righteous:
F. Just as Divine health beats Divine healing, so does living a good moral, Biblical standard way of life.
G. But if we goof up and make a mistake and choose sin, get up and wash off, don’t stay down --- minimize the scars ---
H. COME TO THE FATHER AND SEEK RESTORATION.
VI. THE BLIND MAN TEACHES US A FAITH LESSON, WHILE HE IS STILL BLIND AND CAN NOT SEE HE TAKES OFF HIS BLIND GARMENT... I AM NOT STAYING DOWN!
A. Today if we see a person with a white cane we know they are legally blind!
In Jesus’ day a blind man wore a distinctive coat that people could identify the blind man at a distance.
B. People could see this coat and give alms to help support the blind man and his family.
C. While this blind man was down and out, he knew after a visitation with Jesus, he would not stay down.
Mark 10:49 And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.
50 And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.
D. BY GREAT FAITH THIS BLIND MAN HEADED TO JESUS WITHOUT HIS BLIND COAT!
E. JESUS ASKED THE BLIND MAN WHAT DO YOU WANT?
Many today would not want to lifted up and healed, it would mess up their disability check?
Mark 10:51 And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.
52 And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.
VII. WHEN YOU ARE DOWN --- WATCH THE PUNCTUATION ---
WE KNOW THE PUNCTUATION CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE ON WHAT THE WORDS SAY.
A. When I taught school I used this illustration about punctuation.
A man was sent by a cow ranch owner to buy a prize bull to breed with his stock. This one bull had won state championships and was a rare blue blood
of prize stock.
The owner told the man you buy that bull and bring him back to the ranch.
The man got to the farm and saw the prize bull, sure enough, the bull was a rare show bull.
The man said I am here to buy this bull.
The owner said I am asking $100,000.00.
The man knew that was very high for the bull.
So he ran to the telegraph office and sent a message to his boss.
"THE OWNER WANTS $100,000 FOR THE BULL --- SHOULD I GO AHEAD AND BUY IT?
The farm hand waited in the telegraph office for the return telegram, and it came back:
no price to much
B. WHAT DID THE FARM HAND DO?
Was the message, NO or Yes?
NO! Price too much!
No price too much?
He sent another telegram for clarification.
C. LOOK AT THIS BIBLE PUNCTUATION?
Isaiah 59:19 So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood(,)
the Spirit of the Lord shall lift a standard against him.
D. NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE WHEN I MOVE THE COMA ---
Isaiah 59:19 So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in(,) ---
like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.
E. WHEN WE ARE DOWN, LIKE A FLOOD OUR GOD COMES IN AND HELPS US RAISE THE STANDARD.
CONCLUSION: IT IS HIGH TIME WE GET UP, PRESS ON, FOCUS ON THE GOAL!
CAN GOD?
GOD CAN!
