Hallel means Praise! Text: Mark 11:1-10
1 Now when they drew near Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, He sent two of His disciples; 2 and He said to them, “Go into the village opposite you; and as soon as you have entered it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has sat. Loose it and bring it. 3 And if anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it,’ and immediately he will send it here.”4 So they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door outside on the street, and they loosed it. 5 But some of those who stood there said to them, “What are you doing, loosing the colt?” 6 And they spoke to them just as Jesus had commanded. So they let them go. 7 Then they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their clothes on it, and He sat on it. 8 And many spread their clothes on the road, and others cut down leafy branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 Then those who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: “ Hosanna! ‘ Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!’10 Blessed is the kingdom of Our Father David That comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!”
Introduction: This action from Jesus would thrust Him into Jerusalem, and into His role to be Savior of the world. As the people praised Him He understood that they would be the very ones who would betray Him! FF. Bosworth once said, “ Most Christians feed their bodies three hot meals a day and their Spirits one cold snack a week, and then they wonder why they are so weak in faith!”
I. For the true believer, our faith confession cannot be an option!
Hebrews4: 14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
A. Hold fast is the action or fact of holding something fast or firmly! It’s not letting go of our devotion; it’s expressing our faith by waving our trust or confession in the face of evil daily!
B. As the people shouted, “ Hosanna,” 1. Some wanted instant relief from the government. 2. Others did it as an act of symbolism; remembering Israel’s escape from Egypt. 3. Other’s praised and worshiped Jesus solely by faith. Having understanding that He offered something greater and much higher!
C. Sounds like the 21st century! 1. Instant relief or a quick fix! 2. Others, history! “ I remember when.” 3. A few saw the bigger picture!
D. Mark 11:7 Then they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their clothes on it, and He sat on it.
E. Zech. 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.
F. All four gospels give the account of the Triumphant Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem riding on a donkey. (Matt. 21:1-11; Mark 11:1-10; Luke 19:29-38; John 12:12-16)

H. Mark 11: 8-9 And many spread their clothes on the road, and others cut down leafy branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 Then those who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: “ Hosanna! ‘ Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD
I. Hosanna means Hallel; Hallel means praise! This is a direct prophesy from Psalm 118: 25-26 Save now, I pray, O LORD;O LORD, I pray, send now prosperity. (Grant us success!) 26.Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD We have blessed you from the house of the LORD.
J. Hosanna is a word that means, come! Come for salvation, come for healing, come for new vision, come for new hope, come for love, come for prayer and come for grace!
K. Come by faith! I heard this a while back and it’s so true. “You go to a doctor whose name you cannot pronounce, he gives you a prescription you cannot read, you take it to a pharmacist you don’t know, he gives you a medication you don’t understand-and you take it.” We need to fed our faith, and starve our doubts!
L. Illustration: This will take someone purchasing everyone a palm leaf to wave during worship, and lay down as an act of faith before Jesus at the altar service.
M. Will you lay your worship at the feet of Jesus? Will you give Him an act of your faith today by laying your palm leaves down for the king?
N. Remember, faith can’t go where God’s light hasn’t shined! So allow the light of God to shine bright through you today!
