A little Girl went on a errand for her mother. The little girl was late in returning. The mother asked for an explanation for why she was so late. The little girl explained that her little playmate had fell and broke her doll. The mother was wandering how she could help with a broken doll. She asked the little girl how she could help with a broken doll. The girl replied that she just sat down and helped her cry.
The least is sometimes the most!
Matthew 4:18
18 And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.
Matthew 10:2
2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother;
Mark 1:16
16 And as He walked by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.
Luke 6:14
14 Simon, whom He also named Peter, and Andrew his brother;
Poor Andrew
Always second to his brother
Appears that he had to be identified with his brother
Andrew never said in God’s word
Peter gets all the attention
Peter this and peter that
He never said that he had no identity without peter.
Andrew who was peters brother was also
Andrew who had a brother named peter
John 1:40-41
40 One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41 He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated, the Christ). 42 And he brought him to Jesus.
Now when Jesus looked at him, He said, “You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas” (which is translated, A Stone).
Andrew brought Peter to Jesus
With out Andrew Peter may not have had the opportunity to come to know Christ
Notice here that Jesu changed Peter’s name
He did not change Andrews name
Andrew had already made a name for himself
Jesus recognize Andrew was not one who needed recognition
Jesus understood that Andrew was humble
John 6:8
After these things Jesus went over the Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea of Tiberias. 2 Then a great multitude followed Him, because they saw His signs which He performed on those who were diseased. 3 And Jesus went up on the mountain, and there He sat with His disciples.
4 Now the Passover, a feast of the Jews, was near. 5 Then Jesus lifted up His eyes, and seeing a great multitude coming toward Him, He said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?” 6 But this He said to test him, for He Himself knew what He would do.
7 Philip answered Him, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may have a little.”
8 One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to Him, 9 “There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish, but what are they among so many?”
Andrew had the answer at his finger tips
In his heart he believed that Jesus had the solution to the problem
Andrew brought this little lad to Jesus
This little boy probably became a Christian that day
Yes Andrew the brother of Peter was the one who brought this little boy to Jesus
Quietly Andrew the brother of Peter allowed the Holy Spirit to guide him to this little Boy
Andrew did not say that I did this on my own leave Peter out of this
John 12:17-22
17 Therefore the people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of his tomb and raised him from the dead, bore witness. 18 For this reason the people also met Him, because they heard that He had done this sign. 19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, “You see that you are accomplishing nothing. Look, the world has gone after Him!”
20 Now there were certain Greeks among those who came up to worship at the feast. 21 Then they came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.”
22 Philip came and told Andrew, and in turn Andrew and Philip told Jesus.
In a pinch who did Philip turn to . . . Andrew the brother of Peter
Again Andrew brought people to Jesus
Andrew the brother of Peter
Identified that way for the writers purpose
Known by God as Andrew
Charles Spurgeon said “We have plenty of people nowadays who could not kill a mouse without publishing it in the Gospel Gazette. Samson killed a lion and said nothing about it. The Holy Spirit finds modesty so rare that He takes care to record it. Say much of what the Lord has done you, but say little of what you have done for the Lord. Do not utter a self glorifying sentence”
The Apostle Paul said in:
1 Corinthians 15:9
I am the least of the Apostles
Ephesians 3:8
I am the least of the saints
1 timothy 1:15
I am the chief of the sinners.
Count it as a gift if you are always taking the back seat to people
Humility is the answer
Peter the brother of Andrew was often rebuked by Jesus
Andrew on the other hand was never openly rebuked
A poem by John Oxenham
Is you place a small place?
Tend it with care-
He set you there
Is your place a large place
Guard it with care-
He set you there.
Whate’er your place, it is
Not yours alone, but His
Who set you there.
