Pure Worship Psalm 100:1-5
Worshiping God the Father is not a duty; it’s a delight! It’s not forcing us to worship, it is spontaneous, Spirit-led worship! Pure worship isn’t formal, nor is it built on our circumstances, but it’s warm and free. It requires no stained-glass windows or memorized words, but pure worship can touch the deepest emotion of the soul through adoration, reverence and exaltation, and through our praise for our ever-present God! Think about that, He’s ever present!
I. The definition for pure is: Not mixed with any other substance. Clean and free from impurities. Also pure means, sheer and complete!
I. Did you notice to whom it is addressed? The first verse says that it is addressed to "all the earth," & the last verse says that it is includes "all generations."
A. Vs. 1 says to, make a joyful shout or noise unto the Lord, all the lands! (This is a command, from all-mighty God!)
B. Many times I’m afraid we are like the little boy who was given an orange by a man. The boy’s mother asked, “What do you say to the nice man?” The little boy thought and handed the orange back and said, “Peel it.” (We take God for granted!)
C. Notice that vs.1 says to make a joyful… vs.2 tells us to serve the Lord with gladness! Come before His presence with singing! Pure worship isn’t some sad song with no joy; no, it’s about Him-our savior, healer, provided, sustainer, rock, shield, and peacemaker!
D. Acts 3: 19 Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come form the presence of the Lord.
E. #1.Pure worship is scripturally founded! Exodus 20:1-4 1 And God spoke all these words, saying: 2"I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3"You shall have no other gods before Me. 4"You shall not make for yourself a carved image--any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth;
F. #2.Pure worship is divinely centered! All worship has to be centered on God. In an old Fred Flintstone cartoon, Fred bought his wife Wilma a gift. It was a bowling ball with Fred’s name engraved on it. (Fred wasn’t giving Wilma a gift; he was giving himself a gift.) Do I feel happy? Do I feel good? Did I get a touch?
G. #3.Pure Worship is culturally relevant! Worship has no boundaries of race, class or culture. Pure worship is for the oldest to the youngest!
H. Acts 2: 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call. Galatians 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
I. Psalm 100: 3 Know that the LORD, He is God; it is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
J. #4.Pure worship is corporately edifying! Worship can edify the whole church! It’s He who has made us; not ourselves; we are His people; the sheep of His pasture!
J. #5.Pure Worship is experientially responsive! Ps. 100:4 Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. [I can’t worship for you and you can’t worship for me! When we really worship; we get plugged into God! And when you are plugged into God, get ready for everything you need]!
K. Psalm 100:5 For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting; And His truth endures to all generations.
