12 Days of Christmas
Deut. 6:4-9
Intro. One of the responsibly of parents is to teach their children about the Lord.
-It is also part of the great commission.
Matthew 29:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
In England it became illegal for some groups(especially Catholics) to teach about God or the Bible. (1558-1829)
So a song was written to help children remember that things they needed to learn to be obedient Christians and good members of the Church.
The song was "The12 Days of Christmas"
Many believe it to be a silly song of things given to “my true love”
However, the “True love” in the song is actually speaking of God and His love.
(Sing Song)
Over the years a few of the items and the order was changed.
Each of the 12 Days represented an important doctrine, or passage a Scripture that they were to learn.
12 days actually come after Christmas; from Christmas Day to Epiphany. Or when it is believed the wise men came. 3 Kings Day.
