Introduction
This week will start part 2 of 2 sermons entitled “Standing on the Promises”. The world we live in is full of troubles, tensions and turmoil. If we don’t have something to hold on to, we as the world will be hopeless and helpless. I am reminded of my childhood when I was in school and we would go to recess. One of our favorite schoolyard toys was the “Merry-go-round”. We would have people get on the Merry-go-round and spin it as fast as we could. It was there job to hold on as long as they could, this is the encouragement we receive from Paul in this letter “hold on”.
I. Hold on. “Let us hold fast”
a. Hold fast means to seize and retain something. To put full strength into.
b. Let us declares that it is a individual’s response. No one can do it for us.
II. Hope. “The confession of our hope”
a. Confession means to agree with what we speak. It is important that our life matches our lips. There must be a cohesiveness by our works and words.
b. Hope means what we believe.
c. Without wavering means that we should be firm and unmoving.
III. He. “He who promised is faithful”
a. The biblical definition of promise is to announce that one is about to do or furnish something.
b. Faithful means a person shows that himself reliable in the transaction of business.
c. Who is the He? The he is not the president, father, governor or even myself but it is God. If God ways it in His word that we can stand on it for eternity.
Conclusion
The promises of God are “yea” and “amen”. Yea means yes which is the guarantee it will happen. Amen means so let it be and God amens what He says if we will just hold on and not give up.
