Finished!
Intro.
About four years ago, I started to clean and organize the office in our home…. It’s not finished.
About three months ago, I started working on a biography for our web site…it’s not finished.
How many have a hard time finishing something you started?
-We often start out strong.
-Then either get tired or side tracked.
-And the project goes unfinished.
I was thinking came across this verse the other day and was thinking about the things in the Bible that are finished.
Jesus once said, ”My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.” John 4:34
Let’s look at some things in the Scripture that were finished.
I. The Finished work of Creation. Gen. 4:1
-God finished the work of Creation.
-It did not take millions of years.
-He work was finished.
-He has not created anything new since that first week
of creation.
-Day 1 Day and Night. (Sun and Darkness)
-Day 2 Firmament (atmosphere)
-Day 3 Land and sea – Plants and trees.
-Day 4 Sun, Moon, and stars.
-Day 5 Marine animals and birds.
-Day 6 Land animals, Man.
-Day 7 God rested…He was finished. Vs 2-3
-The work of Creation was finished. (Exodus 20:11)
II. The finished work of the Cross.
-Jesus mentioned a couple of times that He had come to
finish the work of His Father.
-John 4:34
-John 5:36
-Jesus came to do the will and the work of His Father.
-What was His work…to give His life for our sin.
-John 17:4 – Jesus in the garden.
-John 19:30 – It is finished.
-When Jesus died on the Cross…Our penalty for sin
was paid.
The work of Calvary was finished.
III. The finished work of the Christian.
-2 Timothy 4:6-7
-Paul had come to the end of his ministry
-Paul had come to the end of his life.
-At Ephesus he told the Pastor’s that he was going to
Jerusalem and would possibly be killed there.
-Acts. 20:22-24
-He wanted to finished with joy.
-The work of Creation was finished
-The work of Calvary was finished.
IV. Our work is not finished!
-We must continue to press on…
-God has much left for us to do.
-God has a work for you.
-Your work is not finished.
-We must keep moving forward in the work that God
has called us to do.
-We must not quit before the work is finished.
1 Corinthian 15: 57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
Conclusion:
-What is God leading you to do?
-What work has God given to you?
-Don’t quit…
-Let’s finish the work!
-Until we hear those words. Well done thou good and
faithful servant, enter in the joy of the Lord.
