Shouts in the Bible
Psalms 5:11 But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.
In this message we will examine some of the times mentioned in scripture where people shouted. The good, the bad, the ugly, and the beautiful.
1. The shout of initial consecration. Leviticus 9:24
The Jews shouted when God lit the altar on fire for the first time. Whenever a person gets saved there is a reason for shouts of joy.
2. The Shout of a King. Numbers 23:21
The shout of confidence that comes from a redeemed people when they know their king is in their midst.
3. The Shout of Faith - Joshua 6:20
Anybody can shout after the walls come down it takes faith to shout before the walls come down.
4. The Shout of the Philistines. Judges 15:14
An attempt at intimidation by the enemy. Don’t fear any racket the devil may be making.
5. The empty shout of religious formalism. 1 Samuel 4:5,6
Several times in scripture God told people to stop praying. He told Moses to stop praying over Israel, He told Joshua to get up off his face and quit praying because of the sin of Achan. He told Samuel to stop praying for Saul, and David records that when once praying for his enemines his prayer returned to his bosom. (God was telling him to shut up.) In this story the Jews made a lot of noise but God was not in it. In Mt. 17:14-21 the disciples could not cast out a devil, Jesus said it was because of a lack of prayer and fasting on their part. Imagine the ruckus they made trying to cast the devil out! Fleshly shouting will never get God’s work done.
6. The shout of faith awakened. 1 Samuel 17:52
David’s actions awakened the slumbering faith of the rest of Israel. It only took a spark to get a fire going.
7.The shout of joy in the works of God. Ezra 3:11
We should always shout when we see the Kingdom of God going forward.
8. Shouting is the desire of God for His children.
Psalms 132:9 Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout for joy.
9. God went up with a shout.
Psalms 47:5 God is gone up with a shout, the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.
Imagine Jesus’ homecoming after Calvary! The saints and angels lined the streets and the angel of the Lord blew trumpets.
10 God comes back with a shout
1 Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: What a day that will be, when my Jesus I shall see...
Conclusion: Clap your hands and shout, don’t fear the devil’s shout, and don’t shout if God isn’t in it.
