GOING ON AN EASTER EGG HUNT SERMON!

This is an illustrated Easter sermon...
TEXT:
John 11:25 Jesus said unto Martha, I am the RESURRECTION, and the life: he that believeth
in me, though he were died, yet shall he live;
26. And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never dead, BELIEVEST THOU THIS?
Job 19: 25 For I KNOW THAT MY REDEEMER LIVETH, and that He shall stand upon the earth.
26. And though after my skin, worms destroy this body, yet IN MY FLESH I SHALL SEE GOD!
27. Whom I SHALL SEE FOR MYSELF, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another;
though my reins be consumed within me.
THE DOG GONE STORY!
Many years ago before airplanes and the great jets of today, people had to travel by ships.
These great ocean going vessels were very slow sailing across long distances.
The King of Greece made the decision to travel to the USA. The King had heard of the vast land and
how God had blessed the Untied States, and he decided I will take my family and friends to see if what
we hear is true?
So the King of Greece and all those he invited boarded the ship and headed toward America.
The servant of the King would walk the King’s family’s beloved pet dog.
One day the servant in charge of the pet was exercising and playing with the King’s pet dog.
The servant was getting a little careless and the dog had gotten braver and braver running and
playing on the deck of the ocean-liner.
Another day the ship was in choppy water, the dog was running on the hard wood deck.
The little pet dog ran and jumped and when the dog landed, he slid into the ocean.
The servant ran as fast as humanly possible and told the Captain of the Ocean Liner about the
dog sliding off the deck into the ocean and how much the King and the King’s family loved that
pet dog.
The Captain of the ship refused to turn it around for a dumb old dog.
The servant said, "But it is not a dumb old dog, it is the King’s pet!"
The Captain said, "I am sorry, you should have been more careful! But I will not turn the ship
around for a dog!"
The servant started running as fast as possible toward the back of the ship.
The servant could see the swimming dog in the distance, the servant pulled his shoes off, grabbed
a life jacket, and jumped off the back of the ship.
The crew started yelling, "MAN OVERBOARD! MAN OVERBOARD!"
The Captain turned the ship around and went to save the man.
When they found the man floating in his life jacket, he had the dog safe in his arms.
Let us liken this story unto Jesus and the lost, hopeless --- worthless drowning humanity.
Jesus said, "FATHER, I WILL! I WILL GO AND GIVE MYSELF FOR THEM!"
WHY DO WE DO EGGS AT EASTER?
THE EGG REPRESENTS NEW LIFE! NEW HOPE!
Define EGG: to incite action; --- contains food and life; the food and life is protected is a
harder shell; --- the ability to develop a new individual;
THE EGG IS VERY SYMBOLIC OF NEW LIFE, OF A NEW BIRTH,
General words about eggs?
A serpent’s egg will not hatch a chicken?
Yesterday an egg, today a chicken, tomorrow a feather duster?
A Christian should bring forth more Christians?
A hen is natures way of making another egg.
Once the egg is hard boiled, there is doubt to hatch a chick?
CHOICES BEFORE US, LIFE VS. DEATH? You are a product of your choices!
Deuteronomy 30:19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you LIFE and
DEATH, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.
WHY DO WE COLOR EGGS?
As Francis Scott Key looked out the ship’s window, the sun came up, he looked to see if the RED, WHITE,
AND BLUE FLAG WAS STILL STANDING, --- O, SAY CAN YOU SEE BY THE DAWN’S EARLY LIGHT ...
Gave proof through the night that the flag was still there!
WHOSE COLORS ARE YOU WAVING TO OTHERS?
I HAVE A BASKET WITH ONE EGG WITH EACH OF THE COLORS, --- black, red, white, green, purple, gold, yellow, dark blue, sky blue...
I very quickly speak of the symbolism of each color.
BLACK was a color that reminds us of the terribleness of sin.
RED was a symbol of blood, an essential for living, and that the blood sacrifice was given to God.
WHITE was used to represent holiness and purity.
GREEN was a color that represent growth and life.
PURPLE is the color of royalty, we are kin to the King.
GOLD or YELLOW represent testing and refinement that is a part of Christian living, streets of Gold.
DARK BLUE was used in the Old Testament to represent God and holiness.
SKY BLUE was a symbol of hope and heaven.
WHY DO WE HIDE THE EGGS?
God hides us under His wings...Psa. 17:8 Symbolic of protection and favor.
Jesus hid many great truths in parables and stories, so we could find the truth.
Faith: some things may be hidden from our visual fields, but faith knows.
Life has many hidden treasures.
As a child looks for the hidden egg, we have great hope that each person will find new birth in a personal way.
I HAVE HIDDEN 8 PLASTIC EGGS AROUND THE CHURCH, EACH OF THESE 8 EGGS HAVE SOMETHING
HIDDEN INSIDE, I have numbered the eggs, in my mind, and know where to find number 1, then number two,
to keep my thoughts in a logical order!
#1. EGG ---- I HAVE DUCK TAPE WRAPPED AROUND A PLASTIC EGG, HIDDEN IN THE MIDDLE OF A PLASTIC
EGG --- I HAVE A SILK LILY --- THE Lily reminds me, God does not want His children to worry!
The duct tape reminds me, that the recent call for duct tape and plastic for our windows, and the fear many let grow
in their hearts. God will help us!
Recall the hit song: Don’t worry, be happy...
What profit is worry? Name the benefits of worry?
Luke 12:27 Consider the lilies, how they spin not; and yet say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like
the lily. 28. If then God so clothe the grass, which is today in the field and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more
will He clothe you? O, ye of little faith?
29. And seek not what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.
#2. I START OUT LOOKING FOR ANOTHER EGG HIDDEN IN THE CHURCH,
#2 PLASTIC EGG HAS A LITTLE OWL IN IT! I FIND THE EGG, OPEN IT UP, AND TAKE THE LITTLE
OWL OUT AND HOLD THE OWL IN MY HAND.
I tell about a girl in my 7th grade class, her name was Lois. Lois could spit father than any other person in the class.
I watched Lois, she would pray before the spelling test on Friday.
We would get the test back on Monday, Lois failed.
I asked Lois, DO YOU EVER STUDY?
She replied, NAW, I PRAY AND ASKED GOD TO HELP ME!
I talk about how important wisdom is at school, at home, at work and in the church!
I tell about how God helped me in college, I would study, and God would help me!
James 1:5 If any lack WISDOM, LET THEM ASK OF GOD, that giveth liberally, and upbraideth not;
and IT SHALL BE GIVEN!
#3. I START LOOKING AGAIN FOR A HIDDEN EGG, I FIND #3 EGG, HIDDEN IN THE PLASTIC EGG IS A LITTLE
BOTTLE OF PERFUME.
I tell the story about a cow eating wild onions in the field. As you lead the cow into the barn to milk her,
her breath stinking just like the wild onions she has been eating. But that is not all, milk her; cool the milk to
drink, and the fresh milk will taste like wild onions. (THANK GOD FOR HOMOGENIZATION!)
Not only does the breath stink, but so does the cows production of milk.
When we play with sin, our breath stinks to God and so does what ever we produce!
I tell about the guy in my college PE Class. After all our running and sweating, we all took a shower but him,
he would simply pour some OLD SPICE lotion over him and run on to the next class. By the end of the week,
the cologne, perfume, or nothing else could hide his BO, body odor.
Matthew 23:37 You are like WHITEWASHED tombs, you look beautiful on the OUTSIDE,
but INSIDE full of dead men’s bones.
Isaiah 3:24 And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be a stink...
Philippians 4:17 --- but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.
A check is no better than the account from which it is wriiten.
#4. START LOOKING FOR ANOTHER EGG, I HID IN THE CHURCH, AGAIN I KNOW WHERE I HID IT, SO I CAN
FIND THE PLASTIC EGG IN THE PROPER ORDER. THIS IS EGG #4, IN THIS EGG IS A SILK ROSE AND
A DOGWOOD BLOOM.
I explain what a legend is... a legend may or may not be the truth. There is a four part white flower, DOGWOOD,
the rusty --- dried blood color marking each petal, we talk about the nails and the wounds Jesus
suffered for us.
On the rose, I talk about the CROWN OF THORNS, a thorn is an involuteD leaf.
Involuted means it is wrapped up in itself, and represents the selfishness of man.
I tell this story: A MAN HAS A DREAM, HE DIES AND GOES TO HELL!
While in hell the man notices there are many tables and starving people are sitting all around the great tables.
There is hot food of all taste on the table. In Hell, they are starving with food tortuuring them right before their eyes.
While all this food is right before them, each person is starving to death. Each person has a six feet long
fork in his left hand, and a six feet long spoon in the other hand.
The people in Hell cannot get to the delicious food, because the forks reach beyond their mouth.
THE NEXT NIGHT THE MAN DREAMS OF GOING TO HEAVEN!
When the man gets to heaven he sees tables as far as the eyes can see. The tables are full of hot,
wonderful food. Now the man is very troubled, for he sees that each believer has a six feet long fork in his
left hand, and a six feet long spoon in the other hand. All the believers were very full and satisfied
with the wonderful food. See, in heaven, as they were seated at the table, each person fed the person on either
side. The difference in heaven and hell was giving and love!
#5. I START WANDERING AROUND THE CHURCH LOOKING FOR EGG #5; EGG #5 HAS A LITTLE BIRD
HIDDEN INSIDE OF IT!
The bird represents LIFE! HAPPINESS! FREEDOM!
John 3:36 If the Son set you FREE, you will be FREE INDEED...
Romans 8:13 warns us about ---the spirit of BONDAGE AGAIN to fear...
John 15:11 That My JOY may remain in you, and that your JOY may be FULL....
#6. I NOW FIND THE 6TH PLASTIC EGG, IN THE 6TH EGG IS A LITTLE TEDDY BEAR!
NOW I SHALL PLAY ON THE BEAR AS A SYMBOL OF LOVE AND HUGS, BUT MY REAL PLAY
IS GOING TO BE ON BEAR IT --- you can make it, if you want to...
1 Cor. 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man;
but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able;
but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye MAY BE ABLE TO BEAR IT!
#7. I GO LOOKING FOR EGG #7, I FIND IT; EUREKA, I FOUND IT, I OPEN THE 7TH EGG;
AND THERE IS NOTHING IN THE EGG, NOTHING, DID I FORGET SOMETHING?
NAW, THIS EGG WAS DESIGNED EMPTY.
I fear many will have an empty egg to present to Jesus on the Judgment Day.
We need to be busy!
The Sunday School Teacher was making a point about Jesus and how Jesus is everywhere.
The teacher said, Jesus and His Love is on the highest mountain top!
Jesus is in the deepest cave! Jesus is everywhere!
The little wiggly boy, raised his hand, "I know where Jesus isn’t!"
"No, you don’t!" replied the teacher.
The boy said, "Yes, teacher I know where Jesus isn’t --- Jesus isn’t in the grave!"
#8. I START QUICKLY REVIEWING ALL THE EGGS, AND I AM NOW LOOKING FOR THE LAST EGG!
EGG #8, I FIND THE 8TH EGG... IN THE 8TH EGG IS A LITTLE TRUMPET!
WE KNOW WHO IS COMING! JESUS!
WE KNOW WHAT IS COMING! JESUS IS COMING AGAIN!
WE KNOW WHY JESUS IS COMING --- JESUS IS COMING BACK AFTER HIS CHURCH!
1 Thess. 4:16 For the LORD himself SHALL DESCEND from heaven with a SHOUT,
with the voice of the archangel, and WITH THE TRUMP OF GOD, and the dead in Christ
shall rise first.
Jesus is coming soon, morning or night, or noon,
ARE YOU READY? ARE YOU GETTING OTHERS READY?
COULD YOU DO A LITTLE MORE? COULD YOU GIVE A LITTLE MORE!
EUREKA, WE HAVE FOUND THE EGG OF ETERNAL LIFE THAT FLOWS FROM THE FOOT OF THE CROSS!
