THE ACHILLES TENDION? VULNERABLE
By Wade Martin Hughes, Sr. Kyfingers @aol.com (Watch YouTube: Wade Hughes) Two part.
1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
ACHILLES TENDION… There is a mythological account that a mother named THETIS desired her son ACHILLES TO BE STRONG AND INVINICIBLE. SO SHE DIPPED HER SON IN THE RIVER STYX. So mom held her son and dipped him in the water. The event made him so strong nothing could defeat him. There was a weak spot, as she held him in the water there was left a place for him to be hurt a weak area open to attack. Achilles was defeated when the enemy threw a dart that hit his WEAK SPOT IN HIS HEEL and he died. If ACHILLES had only prepared himself and protected HIS WEAKNESSES.
SUPERMAN WAS UNDEFEATABLE BUT DON’T FORGET KRYTONITE MADE HIM VULNERABLE.
KRYTONITE deprived superman of his super powers. This green stuff weakens and can kill Superman.
VULNERABLE: easily wounded, hurt, subject to physical, mental or spiritual hurt, open to attack. WE MUST KNOW OUR WEAKNESSES AND GUARD THEM.
THERE WAS VULNERABILITY IN THE FIRST FAMILY… THE ENEMY CAUGHT EVE OFF BY HERSELF… THEN SHE ENTERTAINED A DISCUSSION OF WORDS. WHY FLIRT WITH THE ENEMY?
Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? 2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: 3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. 6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
VULNERABLE: WHY ARE YOU HIDING ADAM? FEAR AND WORRY ARE INTRODUCED TO HUMANITY.
Genesis 3:8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him,Where art thou?
10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
11 And he said,Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
ADAM HAD NO SORROW, NO REMORSE AND NO REPENTANCE. THE FIRST “PASS THE BUCK” OCCURS IN HISTORY. MAN IS VULNERABLE SPIRITUALLY.
Genesis 3:12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. 13 And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.
ARE WE VUNLERABLE WHEN DOUBT THRIVES? THEY WILL NOT BELIEVE ME! WHAT IS IN YOUR HAND? MOSES SAYS A ROD… A ROD …
THE ROD TURNS INTO A SNAKE AND MOSES DOES WHAT WE WOULD DO… MOSES RUNS FROM THE SNAKE.
PICK UP THE SNAKE BY THE TAIL. ANY GOOD SNAKE HANDLER KNOWS YOU NEVER PICK UP A SNAKE BY THE TAIL.
A real person trained to pick up snakes knows for a fact that you must pick up a snake from the head area. This leaves Moses vulnerable.
Exodus 4:1 And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The LORD hath not appeared unto thee. 2 And the LORD said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod. 3 And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it.
CHANGE? WHERE DOES A ROD BECOME THE ROD OF GOD? VULNERABLE?
Exodus 4:20 And Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them upon an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt: and Moses took the rod of God in his hand.
Exodus 17:9 And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.
I ALWAYS WONDERED: WHY THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL WILL ALWAYS STAY CHILDREN? GROW UP? GOD DESIRES THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL TO REMAIN HIS CHILDREN AND DEPEND ON WHAT GOD SAYS.
Exodus 4: 4 And the LORD said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand: 5 That they may believe that the LORD God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.
MOSES IS HURTING. HE WAS VULNERABLE? MOSES’ SISTER MIRIAM THAT HELPED RAISE HIM DIES. GOD TELLS MOSES TO SPEAK TO THE ROCK. MOSES IS TIRED, ANGRY AND IN A BAD MOOD. SPEAK TO THE ROCK?
Numbers 20:10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? 11 And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.
MOSES AND AARON WERE VERY VULERABLE IN THEIR DISILLUSIONMENT AND DISAPPOINTMENTS. THEY ALLOW THEIR EMOTIONS TO CONTROL THE SITUATION.
This vulnerability cost Moses a trip to the promise land.
Genesis 20:12 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.
Don’t forget MOSES APPEARS WITH JESUS IN JERUSALEM.
GOD TALKS TO SAMSON’S MOM AND DAD HOW STRONG HE WILL BE. ISRAEL HAD A TERRIBLE ENEMY CALLED THE PHILISTINES. ISRAEL WAS IN SPIRITUAL DECLINE. WITH SAMSON THE INVINCIBLE FALLS VULNERABLE AND GREW INTO COMPLACENCY. SAMSON TOOK THE MOVE OF GOD FORGRANTED. SAMSON’S SPIRITUAL ASSUMPTION GOES TO SLEEP WITH HIS HEAD IN THE ENEMY’S LAP.
Judges 16:20 And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him.
Vulnerable, Samson is blind before the put his eyes out.
Judges 16:21 But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house.
In Samson’s vulnerable time he prays a foolish prayer. Samson prays “JUST ONE MORE TIME.” His failure caused him to feel unworthy.
Judges 16:28 And Samson called unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, remember me, I pray thee, and strengthen me, I pray thee, only this once, O God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.
DAVID GOES FROM THE SHEPHERDS FIELD TO THE COMFORT OF THE PALACE AND BECOMES VUNLERABLE. DAVID KNOWS BETTER.
2 Samuel 11:1 And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem.
DAVID WAS NOT WHERE HE SHOULD BE AND HE BECOMES VULNERABLE TO THE TEMPTATION OF SIN.
2 Samuel 11:2 And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.
3 And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? 4 And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house. 5 And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child.
THE MIGHTY SOLDIER URIAH DIES? DAVID FATHERS AN ILLEGITIMATE CHILD AND WILL GO TO THE FUNERAL HOME SEVERAL TIMES… DAVID WAS VULNERABLE WHEN HE SKIPPED HIS DUTIES AS A KING.
CONCLUSION: We are always vulnerable. People tend to brag about how strong they are and never admit their weaknesses. Be honest recognize the traps that are set around us.
Jesus loves me this I know… I AM WEAK BUT HE IS STRONG.
Proverbs 4:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
Proverbs 4:23 (NIV) Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.
Proverbs 4:23 (NLT2) Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
2 Corinthians 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Isaiah 41:10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
