Luke 5:1-10 “One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, the people were crowding around him and listening to the word of God. He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat. When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch. Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets. When they had done so, they caught such many fish that their nets began to break. So, they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink. When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man! For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people”
Jesus stood by the shore preaching the Word of God. The crowd pressed around Him because people were hungry to hear the Word. As the crowd increased, Jesus needed a platform to continue preaching. He saw fishermen nearby, including Simon Peter, who had been fishing all night and had caught nothing.
Jesus stepped into Peter’s boat and asked him to push it a little from the shore so He could preach from it. Peter allowed Jesus to use his boat. And that simple decision opened the door for a miracle. Sometimes the miracle you are praying for is connected to the thing God is asking you to release.
1. God Uses What You Already Have
Jesus did not build a stage to preach from. He used Peter’s boat.
“He got into one of the boats, which was Simon’s…" (Luke 5:3)
God is not waiting for what you don’t have. He is asking for what you already possess.
God asked Moses: “What is that in your hand?” (Exodus 4:2)
Moses had only a rod, but when it was placed in God’s hands it became an instrument of miracles. What you have may look small, but in God’s hands it becomes powerful!
Your talent may be small. Your resources may be limited. Your opportunity may look ordinary. But when God steps into it, everything changes.
When Jesus enters your boat, emptiness cannot remain! If your boat carries the Word of God, it will also carry the blessings of God. The same boat that carried Jesus carried the miracle!
2. Obedience Opens the Door for Miracles
Peter had toiled all night and caught nothing. Imagine the frustration. Imagine the exhaustion. Yet Peter allowed Jesus to use his boat. Later Jesus said:
“Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” (Luke 5:4)
Peter answered: “Nevertheless at your word I will let down the net.” - Luke 5:5
When God speaks, obedience is more powerful than experience. Peter was the fisherman. Jesus was the carpenter. But when God speaks, His Word overrides human experience.
Your Obedience Will Break Your Limitations. Peter had experience, but Jesus had authority. Your knowledge may say “It cannot happen. But the Word of God says, try again. When you obey God, impossibilities begin to surrender!”
3. When God Uses What You Have, He Fills It
After Jesus finished preaching, Peter cast the net again. The result was extraordinary:
“They caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking.” (Luke 5:6)
The same boat that was empty became full. The boat that carried the Word carried the miracle. What you allow God to use will eventually overflow with His blessing.
Your empty nets are about to change. Peter had fished all night and caught nothing. But one instruction from Jesus changed everything. Your empty nets are turning into full nets. Your empty business is becoming prosperous. Your empty dreams are coming back to life. One word from God can change a lifetime of failure!
4. God Blesses Availability
God is not looking for perfect people. He is looking for available people. A small boy offered five loaves and two fish in Gospel of John 6:9, and thousands were fed. A widow gave her last oil in 2Kings 4:1-7, and God multiplied it. Your miracle is often hidden inside your obedience.
Declare a prophetic word in your life this year!
Every empty net in your life be filled in the name of Jesus.
Every season of frustration come to an end in the name of Jesus.
Every place of your labor, produce abundance in the name of Jesus.
Just as Peter experienced a net-breaking miracle, declare A net-breaking season into your life this year.
Let your business overflow.
Let your ministry overflow.
Let your family overflow with blessings.
Because when Jesus steps into your boat, lack cannot remain. Today God is asking the same question He asked Peter:
What are you allowing Me to use?
Your life?
Your gift? Your time?
Your resources?
God uses ordinary people.
God did not choose the richest man.
God did not choose the most educated man.
He chose a fisherman with a boat.
He specializes in using ordinary people to produce extraordinary miracles!
Peter gave Jesus his boat, and Jesus gave Peter a miracle. Perhaps today you need to give Jesus your life.
If you are here today and you want to surrender your life to Christ, or you want to recommit your life to God, this is your moment.
Your miracle is connected to your availability.
Peter’s miracle was waiting before his yes.
When you give God access to your life, miracles gain access to you.
If God can get it through you, He will get it to you!
When Peter obeyed, the Bible says the nets began to break.
This was not a small miracle. It was an overflowing miracle.
A net-breaking miracle. Boat-sinking blessings. Overflowing favor. An unexpected breakthrough.
When God blesses you, your blessings will be bigger than your capacity!
What are you allowing God to use in your life?”
Your voice?
Your business?
Your resources?
Your time?
Because what you surrender to God becomes a channel for His power. The miracle was not in the boat. The miracle was in the presence of Jesus. And when Jesus steps into your life, your empty seasons cannot remain empty. The Bible says: “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9
