God is Love
Most Popular were Good Looking
Have you ever noticed that the good looking was always the most popular?
They always got the date - Yeah I’m jealous because I’m not all that good looking I know.
ALL of you had it easy, - I had it hard!
Best Looking - is that love?
But is that really love anyway? I’m not sure I want to marry the best looking.
How do you know it’s real love when they are good looking.
You know when someone really loves you when you are disfigured!
Looking on the Outside
They the world many times looks on the outside. People would select a leader because they were tall it had bright hair. David was a lad and small in stature when chosen and watched sheep. God looks on the inside and sees things others don't.
Job Interview looks
Told to wear a nice suit and gold rim glasses Don’t fall in love with
in the hopes it will make you look smarter and attractive a Pastry Chef - joke
Will make you more likely to be hired. He’ll Dessert You!
And it works! And they hire an idiot because they focused on the wrong thing.
They say wear the clothes for what job you want?
You look at someone wearing nice clothes and you think why is he all dressed up?
He must be trying to kiss up to the boss or looking for a raise?
You look at someone else and they are in a Batman outfit - like what job does he want?
Judging a book by its cover
Does wearing nice clothes make you more worthy?
We shouldn’t always judge a book by its cover.
Does the way you look make you more lovable?
Real Love has no eyes
God is Love, but is God blind?
Ever wanted to be a doctor? Then you could see inside a person! -- Not really!
If you had an x-ray what would you see? Skeletons in your closet.
What if you were blind? What beauty would you see?
Outside vs Inside
Sometimes you look on someone who is beautiful on the outside and on the inside they are ugly.
Sometimes you look on someone who is ugly on the outside woah they are ugly inside too! Just kidding.
Matthew 23:1-12
1 Then spake Jesus to the multitudes and to his disciples, 2 saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses seat: 3 all things therefore whatsoever they bid you, [these] do and observe: but do not ye after their works; for they say, and do not. 4 Yea, they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with their finger.#rl 5 But all their works they do to be seen of men: for they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders [of their garments], 6 and love the chief place at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, 7 and the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be called of men, Rabbi. 8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your teacher, and all ye are brethren. 9 And call no man your father on the earth: for one is your Father, [even] he who is in heaven. 10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your master, [even] the Christ. 11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be humbled; and whosoever shall humble himself shall be exalted.
Pharisees Outside
The Pharisees were wearing broad phylacteries and enlarged garment borders some say they added tassels? Why?
They were trying to look good on the outside!
Outsides
What’s wrong with looking nice on the outside? Why nothing really.
Like you should go to church in nice clothes not rags if possible.
Pharisees Inside
What were the Pharisees like on the inside?
Matthew 23:25-28
25 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye cleanse the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full from extortion and excess. 26 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first the inside of the cup and of the platter, that the outside thereof may become clean also. 27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. 28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but inwardly ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
Matthew 6:25-29
25 Therefore I say unto you, be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than the food, and the body than the raiment? 26 Behold the birds of the heaven, that they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; and your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are not ye of much more value then they? 27 And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit unto the measure of his life? 28 And why are ye anxious concerning raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29 yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
Matthew 10:29-31
29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? and not one of them shall fall on the ground without your Father: 30 but the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.
His eye is on the Sparrow. Didn't say his eye is on the bright Toucan.
Jesus’ looks
Jesus himself didn't have the most beautiful features.
Isaiah 53:1-3
1 Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? 2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. 3 He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.
Satan’s Looks
Devil comes as an angel of light.
2 Corinthians 11:13-15
13 For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. 15 It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.
Outsides
Are you looking on the outside when God looks on your heart?
Are you beautiful or handsome or ugly or somewhere in between. Don't look on the outside. It doesn't matter. Look on the inside! Where is your heart? Is it full of sin? Has it trusted in Jesus?
Judge of Character
Is your insides beautiful or ugly? Is it full of light or darkness?
Are you a good judge of character? Do you get that way by looking on the outside? No the outside is deceiving you for what is on the inside. Beauty is on the inside but ugly goes all the way to the core!
Religion - Outside vs Inside
We look on the outside and fail to look any deeper.
We think we can be a good person but when we look deeper we find we can’t be good
If you looked at Jesus on the outside you would see no reason to follow Him
When you see who Jesus is - the Savior - then you can realize who He is and why to follow Him
1 John 4:7-21
God’s Love and Ours
7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. 13 This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. 16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 17 This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. 19 We love because he first loved us. 20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. 21 And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.
What changes when you get saved?
If you are saved, you’re beautiful on the inside. If you are saved, be outwardly what you are on the inside. Show your love your true insides.
The lost show their true insides, Christians should show their true insides.
How will they know you’re saved? By seeing your insides
John 13:34,35 34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
