Summary: Who do we follow, a pope, a patriarch, a reformer or God?

Do we ask God to reveal His ways and guide us on His paths? Do we rely upon God to teach us or blindly follow faulty men? Let’s look at Psalm 25.

Do we pray that God would not let those who worship Him be ashamed or disappointed?

I offer you my heart, Lord God, and I trust you. Don't make me ashamed or let enemies defeat me. Don't disappoint any of your worshipers, but disappoint all deceitful liars. (Ps 25:1-3 CEV)

God can use faithful men to teach us His way? Who can we ultimately rely on to teach sinners God’s way, a pope, a patriarch, a reformer or God?

Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long. (Ps 25:4-5 ESV)

Do we pray for God’s mercy upon our past sins, and trust His love and goodness?

Remember your mercy, O Lord, and your steadfast love, for they have been from of old. Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to your steadfast love remember me, for the sake of your goodness, O Lord! (Ps 25:6-7 HCSB)

God can use faithful men to teach us His way? Who can we ultimately rely on to teach sinners God’s way, a pope, a patriarch, a reformer or God?

The Lord is good and just; therefore he will teach sinners concerning the way. He will guide the humble to justice; he will teach the humble his way. All the paths of the Lord lead to gracious love and truth for those who keep his covenant and his decrees. (Ps 25:8-10 ISV)

Have we examined ourselves thoroughly enough to see how great our iniquity actually is?

For thy name's sake, O Lord, pardon mine iniquity; for it is great. What man is he that feareth the Lord? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose. (Ps 25:11-12 KJV)

How will the man who fears the Lord abide? What will his children ultimately inherit?

His soul will abide in goodness, And his seed will inherit the land. The secret of Yahweh is for those who fear Him, And He will make them know His covenant. My eyes are continually toward Yahweh, For He will bring my feet out of the net. (Ps 25:13-15 LSB)

If we are lonely and afflicted, to whom can we turn? Are there people who hate us?

Turn to me and be gracious to me, For I am lonely and afflicted. The troubles of my heart are enlarged; Bring me out of my distresses. Look at my misery and my trouble, And forgive all my sins. Look at my enemies, for they are many, And they hate me with violent hatred. (Ps 25:16-19 NASB)

What is a precondition for forgiveness of our sins?

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9 NIV)

Do we ask God to reveal His ways and guide us on His paths? Do we rely upon God to teach us or blindly follow faulty men? You decide!
