Thanksgiving Reminds Us

Col. 1:3-6

Intro.

I love Thanksgiving.

It brings us back to a place of worship and

honoring the Lord.

It brings us back to a place of memories.

It brings us back to a place of remembering who

God is and who were are.

I. It reminds us to keep God in his rightful place.

A. He is above all

Psa. 95:3 For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods.

1Chr. 29:11 Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the

majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art

exalted as head above all.

1. The Creator

Psa. 100:3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are

his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

3. Our Saviour

B. Our source for everything.

James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of

lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

C. He is King of Kings and Lord of Lord’s

D. Our praise and thanks belong to Him.

II. It reminds us to keep us in our rightful place

A. Humbled before Him.

1. Isaiah 6:1-5

2. “Undone” - totally lost

3. “Unclean lips” - guilty

B. He truly saw himself and how he really was in the presence of God.

C. He must always have first place in everything.

Col. 1:18b that in all things he might have the preeminence.

D. We approach Him with reverence and fearrecognizing who He is and who we are.

E. Through Christ was can now see ourselves a grateful children.

Gal. 3:26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

F. We give Him thanks in everything.

1Th. 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

III. It reminds us to put other’s in their rightful place

A. We should be thankful for the people God puts in our lives.

Phil. 1:3 I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,

B.Parents and Grandparents

C. Family (Brothers, sisters, cousins, aunts, uncles,

etc.)

D. Teachers (secular and spiritual)

E. People who encouraged us in the Lord

2Th. 1:3 We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith

groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth;

1. Be thankful for them

2. Be thankful TO them

3. Pastors, teachers, christian friends who discipled us.
