He Supplies
Philippians 4:14-19
Intro: Philippians 4:19
God is the supplier of everything we need.
In writing to the Church at Philippi Paul was complementing them on how they had helped him in the past.
Though them and other churches, God had met is needs.
They were supporting him much like we support missionaries today.
Then he reminded them that, “MY God shall supply all your need according to HIS riches in Christ Jesus.
God Supplies OUR need every day
God blesses us with what we need.
We ought to be thankful for it every day
He meets our needs through HIS riches.
Certainly Paul was talking about physical needs.
Food
Water
Shelter
Clothing
Today, I’d like to take a different approach, as God not only supplies our PHYSICAL needs, but also our SPIRITUAL needs.
1. Our greatest need is A Savior.
A. We were lost. (Adam)
1. Because of Adam’s sin
Rom. 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed
upon all men, for that all have sinned:
2. Our only hope is in a Savior.
a. It’s the whole reason the God sent Jesus to earth.
b. To save us from our sin.
God told Joseph, Jesus’ father
Matt. 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save
his people from their sins.
B. Now we can by saved by trusting Christ as our personal Savior.
1. By Faith
Eph. 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
2. Because He loved us so much.
1John 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the
propitiation (atoning sacrifice) for our sins.
Rom. 5:6 ¶ For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
Rom. 5:7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some
would even dare to die.
Rom. 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for
us.
Rom. 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through
him.
Rom. 5:10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much
more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
God supplied our greatest need: a Savior who would rescue us from our own sin.
II. Food for our nourishment
A. Without nourishment (food) we would die of weakness.
1. Food provided energy
2. Materials for growth
3. Strength
4. Energy
B. For this nourishment God gave us His Word.
1. The Word of God has it all.
a. Milk for babies.
1 Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby
b. Meat for the adults.
Heb. 5:12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again
which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk,
and not of strong meat.
Heb. 5:13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a
babe.
Heb. 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of
use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
2. The Word of God supplies everything we need for spiritual
nourishment.
a. It gives us energy.
1) Nothing ignites the soul like reading the Word of God.
2) It encourages us.
b. It gives us want we need to grow in the Lord
c. It gives us strength.
Psalms 119:28 my soul melteth for heaviness: strengthen Thou me according unto thy
word.
God has supplied our need for nourishment in His Word
III. Shelter for protection
Psalm 61:3 For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a
strong tower from the enemy.
A. We are given shelter
1. Under His wing
Psa. 36:7 How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust
under the.shadow of thy wings.
2. In His hand
John 10:28-29 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck
them out of my hand.
My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my
Father’s hand
3. Our shelter
Psa. 71:3 Be thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: thou hast given
commandment to save me; for thou art my rock and my fortress.
a He is our rock
b. Our Fortress
c. A shelter in the time of storm
-God IS our need for shelter.
IV. Clothing.
A. While we live on this earth we need a very special kind of
clothing.
1. The Armor of God, Ephesians 6:10-18
2. It protects us from the “wiles of the devil”.
B. Robes of Righteousness.
Rev. 7:9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and
kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white
robes, and palms in their hands;
C. Garments of Salvation
Isaiah 61:10 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.
God supplies the appropriate clothing at the right time.
V. Water
A. Living Water, John 4:4-14
B. This water give us ETERNAL LIFE. Vs. 14
C. You get it by trusting Jesus.
7:37 ¶ In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him
come unto me, and drink.
John 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living
water.John
