The Glory We Have Been Given

John 17:22 "The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one;
What was the glory given to Jesus that we also have been given? If you grasp this today it will be of great benefit to you spiritually. It will transform your prayer life. I need a couple minutes to flesh it out, but we are going somewhere good.
PPT 3 first point
1st point we have been given glory, whatever that means.
Jesus said in his prayer, “I have given them,” He wasn’t praying for that He was stating it was a done deal. It is a past tense thing at the moment he said it. The Apostle Paul affirms it is something that is done for all believers:

Romans 8:28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
Romans 8:29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren;
Romans 8:30 and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified.
Notice Paul speaks in v. 30 of being glorified in the past tense. He is not speaking of what happens to us when we get to heaven, he is speaking of what Jesus has already done for us.
What is meant by the glory we have been given? Before I get to that I want to point out the practical benefit of that fact, and the doors of blessings it opens for us:
When Paul says we have been glorified does it mean we have halo’s we can’t see? Yes, in a way, and yet it is way more than that. Romans 8:31 is the practical point of all that goes before in in v 28-30. We have been put into a very special state of relationship with God, and that is important that you know and grasp it.
Romans 8:31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?
That God called us, justified us, and glorified us, means we have been put in a position with Him that He can bless us. We can say that another way, what He has done for us positions us to be able to walk in and receive His facot. With that in mind that leads me to my second point, which explains what the glory is that we have been given.
PPT 6 Second Point
2. The Glory we have been given is sonship.

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Jesus had a glory Him about that is unique among all the people who have ever lived, He is the only begotten of the Father. He is the only person ever born that didn’t have a human father, and the only person ever born that is both God and man. He is God wrapped in the envelope of human flesh.
The glory that Jesus had, was that He is God and man mixed. But more than that, this God man had a very special relationship with God. God glorified Jesus in a very special way.

Luke 3:21-22 Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.
God glorified Jesus by showing up for Him and speaking of both His Sonship and His love for Him.
Imagine if God said that about/to you. He does!
As a practical illustration of how it positions us for favor, imagine if the President of the United States, introduced you as His child. What doors that would open to you, what kindnesses you would be shown! Before I go on, I need to talk about the uniqueness of Jesus a little more. He is the highest of all creation. We are not equal with Him, He is above all, but He is the firstborn of many brethren, whom we are. We are in His image and likeness as sons/daughters, and because of that we have been elevated to a glorified status.

Matthew 17:1 And six days later Jesus *took with Him Peter and James and John his brother, and *brought them up to a high mountain by themselves.
Matthew 17:2 And He was transfigured before them; and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as light.
Matthew 17:3 And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.
Matthew 17:4 And Peter answered and said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, I will make three tabernacles here, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah."
Matthew 17:5 While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and behold, a voice out of the cloud, saying, "This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!"
God spoke and said you are concentrating on the wrong persons. Moses and Elijah may look radiant, but don’t look to them look to Jesus, He is above them all.
Jesus is uniquely the only begotten Son of God, and God glorified Him by calling Him His beloved Son in Whom He was well pleased. He put the highest honor on Him, in front of others by doing and saying that.
If God calls you His son, and says in you He is well pleased, you have been given in the same manner the glory given His son. You have been glorified; you have been made special. You have been exalted, you have been upgraded, you have been made the head and not the tail.
When we use the term Son of God we are talking about Jesus. God has glorified man by using the same terms about us, but to lesser degree.

Luke 3:38 Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.
1 John 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God…
The Apostle John is absolutely amazed that God calls us sons, and that it is the ultimate expression of His love. Sonship positions us for favor.
Earlier we read from John 1 which spoke of Jesus glory as the only begotten of the Father, let me show you that verse in context:
PPT 12 text
John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
John 1:13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
In the same passage where it talks about Jesus glory manifested in His unique Sonship, it also speaks of our sonship. Let me wrap up this morning by making this practical to our everyday living. I want to show you a couple more verses and then close.
We stand in a very special and unique place with God.

Hebrews 1:1 God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways,
Hebrews 1:2 in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.
As God’s beloved Son Jesus is appointed heir of all things.

Romans 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
Romans 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ…
We are joint heirs with Christ!!! That is an elevated and glorified status. No angels or other heavenly beings are joint heirs. This is why John is amazed and says: 1 John 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God…
Because of our special and unique place with God we have a future hope that is laid up for us, but we can also expect tokens of His favor here and now.

John 11:41 So they removed the stone. Then Jesus raised His eyes, and said, "Father, I thank You that You have heard Me.
John 11:42 "I knew that You always hear Me…"
As sons we can pray with a similar confidence, thanking God that He always hears us. Again there is a qualitative difference between us and Jesus. He always gets what He prays for, but we don’t know how to pray as we ought. Yet as sons/daughters we have the privilege and assurance that He lovingly always gives us audience and listens to our prayers.
Close: The glory you have been given is that you can be a child of God and that He speaks over your life that you are his beloved son/daughter in whom He is well pleased. He will give public affirmation of that special love.
You can have confidence before Him, and pray expecting answers bc
