And We Know
I John 5:18-20
Intro.
In knowing Jesus there are certain things that we
KNOW.
- Things we don’t have to figure out or work
through.
- Things that only the born again know.
- We KNOW the Son of God is come. 1 John 5:20
- And he has giving us an understanding.
- Things that the unsaved do not understand.
- Nor does the world understand them.
- It’s an understanding given to us by the Holy
Spirit.
John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall
not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to
come.
1. We know the truth.
A. It’s sets us free.
John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
1. Free from sin.
a. Sin no longer controls me.
b. We are dead to sin.
Romans 6:6-14
2. Free from self
a. My selfish ways
b. Putting Christ first
John 3:30 He must increase, but I must decrease.
c. Giving God the glory rather then self
Psa. 29:2 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty
of holiness.
3. Free from satan
a. Satan has no power over us unless we give it
to him.
James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Eph. 4:27 Neither give place to the devil.
b. Satan is defeated
1John 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For
this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
B. Truth that does not change.
1. It’s not “our truth, or your truth it is GOD’s
truth, and it does not change.
2. We was true then, is true now.
C. God’s Word is truth.
Psa. 119:89 For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.
Jesus prayed …thy word is truth (John 17:17)
II. We know the way
A. Jesus!
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father,
but by me.
B. There is NO other way.
Prov. 16:25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of
death.
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given
among men, whereby we must be saved.
1. There are NOT many roads that lead to Heaven.
2. Only one road. Jesus avenue
C. We must show the way to others.
III. We know the life.
1John 5:12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
1. New life
Rom. 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up
from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
2. When we get saved the old life died with Jesus.
2Cor. 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold,
all things are become new.
3. Everything changes
a. I don’t go to the places I used to go.
b. I don’t talk like I used to talk
c. I don’t live like I used to live.

B. Abundant life
John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
1. A life of blessings.
2. A life of fellowship with the Lord.
a. Waking with Him
b. Talking to Him.
c. Enjoying His presence.
C. Eternal life
John 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life
.Rom. 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our
Lord.
1. It is God’s gift to us.
a. Will you refuse it?
b. Will you accept it gratefully?
2. It is received by faith.
Eph. 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of
God:
