Summary: Elihu, a young man had been listing to the advise that his elders had been giving to Job. When he had had enough he spoke up. He message was one of hope and salvation by God's grace

A Young Man’s Message

Job 33:8-28

Intro.

This chapter of Job are the words of Elihu

After Job had lost everything and sat suffering in a pile of ashes scrapping the boils on his skin (Job

2:7-8)

Three friends came to “comfort” him.

Job 2:11 ¶ Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him, they came

every one from his own place; Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the

Naamathite: for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to comfort

him.

They sat with him for seven day and seven nights

not saying a word. (Job 2:12-13)

Then, each of them speak ultimately concluding that his suffering was because of his sin.

Job consistently denies it.

Seemingly, out of now where, appears Elihu.

Job 32:1

He was angry Job 32:1-5

He was young. Vs. 4, 6

You really don’t know what you’re talking about. Vs. 32:7-9

So, listen to me. Vs. 10-12

I think he may have been sitting in with them the whole time.

We really don’t know much about him.

I. Man’s sins. (Job 33:8-13)

A. I have done nothing wrong. Vs. 8-9

B. God has rejected me. Vs. 10-11

1. He just keeps attacking me.

2. He counts me as his enemy.

Gen. 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her

seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

3. He put’s my fee in the stocks.

He doesn’t let me do what I want to do.

3. He make all my paths

He sees everything, everywhere I go.

C. Elihu - you are NOT just - not right with God

1. Why do you fight against him. Vs 13

a. People wrestle with what God says is right.

b. Recently a comedian said, “The Ten Commandments are stupid”.

c. People just want to do what they want to do.

2. God doesn’t answer to you. Vs. 13b

D. All have sinned - no excuses

Rom. 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

Rom. 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

II. God speaks (Job 33:14-23

A. And people don’t get it.

1. Perceiveth = Not listening

2. Not thinking about it — at all.

B. God speaks through many different ways.

1. God speaks in our sleep. Vs. 15

2. God speaks in His Word.

2Tim. 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for

correction, for instruction in righteousness:

3. God speaks through pain. Vs. 19

4. God speaks through sickness. Vs. 20

5. God speaks through potential death. Vs. 22

C. Why?

1. To keep man from destroying himself. Vs. 17a

Prov. 16:25 ¶ There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the

ways of death.

2. To keep him from pride. Vs. 17b

3. To show what is right. Vs. 23

III. Jesus Saves. (Job 33:26)

A. God is gracious. Vs. 24

Eph. 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith;

and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

B. God has found a ransom - Jesus. Vs. 24

1. We are held by sin resulting in death.

James 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished,

bringeth forth death.

2. Jesus paid for us by dying on the cross.

Col. 1:14 In whom we have redemption through

his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

Heb. 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once

into the holy place, having obtained eternal

redemption for us.

3. Jesus pain our ransom.

C. God will give you new life. Vs. 25

2Cor. 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away;

behold, all things are become new.

D. Prayer and confession. Vs. 26

1. God will be favorable

a. “Favorable:” = pardon,

b. God face will shine with joy

c. Man received God’s righteousness through Jesus.

2Cor. 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the

righteousness of God in him.

2. Confession. Vs. 27

a. I have sinned.

b. I perverted that which was right.

1) trying to make what is wrong, right.

2) Doing what we think is right, not what

God says is right.

Judg. 21:25 In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right

in his own eyes.

3) It was no good. Vs. 27c

E. Salvation - God will save us.

1. Deliver the soul from the pit.

2. His life shall see the light. John 1

John 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

Conclusion

All have sinned - no exceptions, no excuses.

Jesus paid for our sin by his shed blood on the cross.

He simply asks that we believe him.

John 1:11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to

them that believe on his name:
