Summary: You did run well? What is hindering our potential that keeps us from growing? We need to apply our hearts to wisdom!

WHAT HINDERS US?

By Wade Martin Hughes, Sr. Kyfingers@aol.com (YouTube: Wade Hughes)

LET US LOOK AT WHAT HINDERS GOD’S PEOPLE. IN DANCING WHAT DOES: CUT IN MEAN? GOD, REVEAL TRUTH TO US. WHAT CAN DERAIL AND HINDER US? MANY OBSTACLES WILL CAUSE US TO LOSE FOCUS AND CHANGE OUR ATTITUDES FOR THE WORSE.

Galatians 5:7 Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?

*HINDER: to block, obstruct, to make slow, to delay, impede, prevent, uncertain whether changes would help or hinder, difficult for progress, hamper, to hold back, to interrupt, to keep back, to get in the way, interfere with progress.

In the Bible hinder often means to obstruct, delay or make things difficult.

Spiritually we often see there are issues that will try to stop us from progressing.

ONE HUGE HINDRANCE TO GROWTH IS BURNOUT, BURNED UP… DISCOURAGEMENT IS A TRAP.

Galatians 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

Galatians 6:9 (ESV) And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

I felt lead to go talk to a fellow pastor in our town. I was concerned for him. He was very successful. I called and took him to lunch. We talked a few minutes. I told him I was afraid he was near BURN-OUT. In great anger he told me he was not burned-out. HE WAS BURNED UP with the lack of faithfulness of his people. He was very angry. He left the ministry.

FAMILY ISSUES CAN HINDER US TO SLOW DOWN PROGRESS.

1 Peter 3:7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

BEWARE OF UNSTABLE, UNFAITHFUL, SMOOTH TALKING GRASSHOPPER PROPHETS.

2 Timothy 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,

OUR LIVES ARE OFTEN HINDERED BECAUSE THE CHURCH SUFFERS FROM A LACK OF THE PROPER PRIORITIES.

Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

WE ARE OFTEN HINDERED: WHERE ARE THE NINE? UN-THANKFUL…

Luke 17:16 And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. 17 And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? 18 There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.

HINDRANCE? FROZEN COMMUNICATION LINES? WE MUST LEARN CREATIVE USE OF CONFLICT?

Hebrews 13:16 But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

THE HARVEST IS GREAT, THE LABORERS ARE FEW… NOT ENOUGH HELP CAN OVERLOAD THE WORKERS AND HINDER PROGRESS.

Matthew 9:37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;

I AM A LITTLE NOBODY AND WHAT I CAN DO DOES NOT MATTER.

Two frogs fall in a milk can… after a while one gives up and drowns. The other one kicks until the cream turns to butter and he jumps out.

Judges 6:15 And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house.

1 Samuel 9:21 And Saul answered and said, Am not I a Benjamite, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel? and my family the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? wherefore then speakest thou so to me?

TO BE MORE THAN A LOVER OF PLANTS, A GOOD GARDENER MUST HATE WEEDS. HINDER? IS KIND OF LIKE WEEDS GROWING IN A GARDEN. THE ENEMY COMES AGAINST US TO TRY AND CREATE STRONGHOLDS.

We must stay focused on what is important. We must discipline our eyes, hearts and minds. Perseverance must become a goal. Discouragement is a terrible tool in the enemy’s tool box. LIFE CAN BECOME CIRCULAR, REDUNDANT AND WE FIGHT THE SAME GIANTS CONTINUALLY OVER AND OVER.

Hebrews 12:1Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

GET RID OF IT… THROW OFF ANY WEIGHT AND SIN. Break the strong holds! Some will lay aside sin but there is more than this: WE MUST LAY ASIDE THE WEIGHTS THAT HOLD US DOWN.

When I was in high school there was a boy with great potential in basketball. He was lazy in his jumping. The coach tied some weights to his shoes. All week long this player had weights tied to his feet. They got heavy. He would lift his feet higher. Right before the game the coach removed the weighs. The young man jumped higher than before. We must take the weights off.

CONCLUSION: OUR ENEMY HATES LIGHT AND HE HATES GOD. OUR ENEMY WILL TAKE EVERY OPPORTUNITY HE CAN FIND TO HINDER YOU, YOUR FAMILY AND THE CHURCH.

1 Thessalonians 2:17 (ESV) But since we were torn away from you, brothers, for a short time, in person not in heart, we endeavored the more eagerly and with great desire to see you face to face, 18 because we wanted to come to you—I, Paul, again and again—but Satan hindered us.

We would do well to study the tools the enemy uses to hinder God’s plan and purpose. Do you know the tools the enemy is using against you and your family? The enemy is not creative. He uses the same old same old traps to hinder us. Do we recognize the traps? The hindrances are real. Bad attitudes? Your mouth? Laziness? Procrastination? Un-forgiveness? Pride? Greed? Self-exaltation? The lack of self-evaluation and accountability? A seared conscience?
