Summary: So much of our modern communications are written in abbreviations. One of the key words of 1 John is "know". (also love, and believe). This message is built around the things John said we could (and should know. I'll use a Keynote presentation (Powerpoint) available upon request.

BTW (By the Way)

But what about this one.

If You Know You Know

In his little letter John uses the word “know” over 30 times.

It’s almost as if John was saying, “If you know, you know”.

Let’s take a look at a few of them.

I. That we Know HIm. 1 John 2:3-5

A. One way you know you are saved is by how

willing you are to be obedient to Christ.

1. Being baptized. Matt. 28:18-20

2. Loving your neighbor

Matthew 22:36-39 “Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him,

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy

mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love

thy neighbour as thyself.”

3. Love Each other.

John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved

you, that ye also love one another.

B. It’s easy to identify a liar. Vs. 4

C. God’s love is perfected in your obedience.

II. That we’ll be like him. Vs. 3:2

A. Sinless

1Pet. 2:22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found

in his mouth:

B. Righteousness

2 Cor. 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the

righteousness of God in him.

C. Holy

Lev. 20:7 Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the LORD your God.

D. Because of his death on the Cross

III. We have passed from death to life. Vs. 3:14

Ephesians 2:1-5

IV. We love the Children of God 1 John 5:2

A. It shows in how we love the brethren

B. “Love me, love my kids”

C. The Mark of the believer.

John 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are

my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

D. We can love each other because he loves us.

E. There’s that commandment thing again.

V. We have eternal life. Vs. 5:13

A. Written to those who believe

B. You can have assurance of your salvation.

1. We don’t have to wonder about our salvation

2. We don’t have an wishful hope.

3. Can you say you KNOW you have eternal life?

VI. God answers prayer 1 John 5:14-15

A. Confidence - I know without any doubt

B. Ask anything according to His will

1. He HEARS us.

2. We KNOW He will answer.

Conclusion

These are just a few of the things John says “If you know, you know”.

He even finishes the book with the things we know.

1 John 5:18-20

- Anyone who is born again, cannot continue in sin.

Why - because we have repented of sin.

- The Devil can’t touch us. Vs. 18

- We are of God. Vs. 19

- Jesus has come. Vs. 20

— We can know Him.

— We are in him.

— This is the truth.
