Go! And Know You Belong
Introduction: Who Truly Belongs?
The question of who truly belongs to God has echoed through history. From the tents of Abraham to the temples of Jerusalem, from Roman prisons to modern pulpits, we all ask: Who are God’s people?
Today, as we continue our "Go! And..." series, we come to a powerful truth that grounds our identity and fuels our mission: Go! And Know You Belong. You belong not because of your background, culture, or bloodline, but because of your relationship with Jesus Christ.
This is a message of assurance. A message of promise. A message that exalts the Saviour, Jesus Christ, and invites every listener to receive the full inheritance of God through faith in Him.
1. The Promise Has Not Failed
Romans 9:6 (NLT): "Well then, has God failed to fulfil his promise to Israel? No, for not all who are born into the nation of Israel are truly members of God’s people."
Paul, heartbroken for his Jewish kinsmen, writes to the Roman church—a mix of Jewish and Gentile believers—explaining that God's promises are still intact. The Greek word for "failed" here is ekpipto, meaning "to fall away or collapse." Paul is assuring us: God’s promises never collapse!
Not all who are ethnically Israel are spiritually Israel. The covenant was never about race, but always about grace.
John 1:12-13 (NLT): "But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn... a birth that comes from God."
Belonging is not inherited; it is received by faith. You may feel like an outsider, but through Christ, you are brought near.
Tim Keller "The gospel is this: We are more sinful and flawed... than we ever dared believe, yet at the same time we are more loved and accepted... than we ever dared hope."
My friend, this is the beauty of grace. You belong not because of who you are, but because of who Christ is—and what He has done.
Imagine an orphaned child handed a birth certificate declaring, “You are now legally adopted.” Nothing they did earned that new name—but the new name is real. You and I are adopted by grace into God's family.
2. The Seed is Christ
Galatians 3:16 (NLT): "God gave the promises to Abraham and his child. And notice that the Scripture doesn’t say "to his children," as if it meant many descendants. Rather, it says "to his child" — and that, of course, means Christ."
Paul emphasises a specific point in Scripture: the promise was made not to Abraham's many descendants (sperma, plural), but to one Seed (sperma, singular)—Christ.
This is theological gold! Christ is the fulfilment of the Abrahamic promise. All the promises of God find their "Yes" in Him (2 Corinthians 1:20).
Genesis 12:3 (NLT): "All the families on earth will be blessed through you."
That blessing is Jesus—through whom salvation is offered to the world.
Do you want to inherit the promises of God? Don’t chase bloodlines—embrace Christ!
Charles Stanley "God’s promises are sealed with His character, not our performance."
The promises are secure, not because we are faithful, but because Christ is. He is the true Seed, the true Son, and in Him, we are truly heirs.
Like someone winning a lottery but discovering it was bought in their name by another. You didn’t earn it. You just receive it. Christ paid. You inherit.
3. You Belong to Christ, You Are Abraham’s Heir
Galatians 3:29 (NLT): "And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you."
Greek: kleronomos (heir) - means more than possession—it denotes full legal right to the inheritance. In Christ, you are a legitimate, legal heir of God’s promises!
Ephesians 1:11 (NLT): "Because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God."
You don’t just follow Jesus—you belong to Him. And because you belong, the blessings of Abraham, the promises of God, the indwelling of the Spirit, the hope of eternity—all belong to you!
Max Lucado "If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it."
That’s not just sentiment—it’s scriptural reality. You are precious, chosen, and beloved. You belong to God!
Gospel Presentation: The Inheritance Won by Christ
All of God’s promises come to us through the Gospel:
Christ died in your place.
Christ was buried, confirming His death.
Christ was raised on the third day, guaranteeing your life.
1 Corinthians 15:3-4 (NLT): "Christ died for our sins... He was buried, and He was raised..."
He took your sin and offers you His righteousness. He bore your shame and gives you sonship. Through repentance and faith, you are grafted into the promises of Abraham, adopted by the Father, filled with the Spirit, and destined for glory.
