Rejoicing in Faith
1 Peter 1:3-9
Intro.
Peter was writing to “strangers” who were scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and
Bithynia. Vs. 1:1
These were people who had left Jerusalem because of the persecution that had come there.
Peter begins by encouraging them in their faith.
“Blessed be God the Father” - Praise God!
I. Salvation because of Resurrection
A. Based on the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
1. We serve a risen Christ.
2. A living Christ.
“Who being the brightness of his glory, and the
express image of his person, and upholding all
things by the word of his power, when he had
by himself purged our sins, sat down on the
right hand of the Majesty on high;”
(Hebrews 1:3 KJV)
B. Based on God’s “abundant mercy”
C. Born again “begotten again”
D. Giving us a “Living Hope”
1. Living because He Lives
2. Not a dead hope - a Living hope
II. Salvation Reserved
A. An inheritance
B. Incorruptible - It will not corrode or wear out.
C. Undefiled - It is perfect
D. It will not fade away
E. It’s reserved in Heaven
1. I have a heavenly reservation
2. It will not be changed
3. It will not be cancelled.
4. It’s a guaranteed reservation.
5. Kept by the power of God.
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life;
and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave
them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.”
(John 10:27-29 KJV)
III. Salvation revealed.
A. Revealed in the last time.
B. It’s ready to be revealed.
IV. Salvation of rejoicing
A. “Wherein ye greatly rejoice”
1. Are you glad you’re saved?
2. We have something to rejoice about.
B. There may be seasons of trial. Vs. 6
1. Remember they had gone through a great persecution.
2. We must remember that our trials are temporary.
3. Faith, more precious than refined gold.
- Golden faith
C. In the end it will bring God praise, honour and glory at the appearing of Christ.
D. We rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory. Vs. 8
1. It may hard now.
2. Rejoice - in the end, we win!
E. Count it joy.
“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of
your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire,
wanting nothing.” (James 1:2-4 KJV)
V. Salvation Received
A. The end (outcome) of your faith
B. “The salvation of your souls”
Conclusion
Though you may be going through a hard time.
REJOICE - better days are coming.
When you trusted Christ you have a salvation that is
guaranteed, reserved in heaven for you.
