Go! And Stand Strong in the Lord - Ephesians 6:10-11
Introduction: The Battle We Face
We live in a world filled with challenges, temptations, and spiritual battles. Every day, we face struggles that are not merely physical or emotional but deeply spiritual. There is an unseen war raging—a war between the forces of darkness and the Kingdom of God.
In this battle, we are not called to retreat. We are not called to surrender. We are called to stand strong in the Lord!
Ephesians 6:10-11 (NLT) declares:
"A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil."
Paul, writing from a Roman prison, gives this urgent command to believers: Be strong! Put on the full armour of God! Stand firm! This is not a suggestion—it is a divine call to action.
Today, we will explore what it means to Go! And Stand Strong in the Lord!
1. Go! And Be Strong in the Lord (Ephesians 6:10)
Paul begins with a powerful exhortation:
"A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power."
The Greek word for "be strong" is ??d??aµ?? (endynamóo), meaning "to be empowered, to be made strong." This word is used in Philippians 4:13 (NLT):
"For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength."
This means our strength does not come from ourselves—it comes from the Lord!
Isaiah 40:29-31 (NLT) – "He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless… those who trust in the Lord will find new strength."
God’s strength is given to those who trust in Him.
2 Corinthians 12:9 (NLT) – "Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.’ So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me."
God’s power is perfected in our weakness!
We must stop relying on our own strength and start relying on God’s strength.
Spend time in prayer, worship, and the Word—this is where we draw strength from the Lord.
Declare: "I am strong in the Lord and in His mighty power!"
Imagine a lamp unplugged from the power source. It cannot shine, no matter how new or well-designed it is. But the moment it is connected, the light shines brightly. Likewise, we must stay connected to God’s power!
John Piper said: "God is most glorified in us when we are most dependent on Him."
2. Go! And Put on God’s Armour (Ephesians 6:11a)
Paul continues:
"Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm…"
The Greek word for "put on" is ??d?? (endyo), meaning "to clothe oneself, to be fully dressed." This word is also used in Romans 13:14 (NLT):
"Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ."
We are not to rely on human strategies—we must put on God’s armour!
Romans 13:12 (NLT) – "The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living."
We must intentionally choose to put on the armour daily.
Colossians 3:12 (NLT) – "Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience."
God calls us to be spiritually equipped every day.
You would never go into a physical battle without armour—why face spiritual battles unprotected?
Each morning, consciously pray and put on the armour of God.
Declare: "I am clothed in God’s armour and ready for battle!"
A firefighter wouldn’t enter a burning building without protective gear. A soldier wouldn’t step onto the battlefield without his armour. Likewise, we must never step into the world unprotected—God’s armour is essential!
A.W. Tozer said: "A scared world needs a fearless church."
3. Go! And Stand Firm Against the Enemy (Ephesians 6:11b)
Paul gives us the reason for putting on the armour:
"…so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil."
The Greek word for "stand firm" is st??a? (stenai), meaning "to hold ground, to be immovable." This word is also used in James 4:7 (NLT):
"So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."
Satan is a deceiver, a liar, and a strategist. He schemes against believers, trying to make them fall. But we are called to stand firm!
1 Peter 5:8-9 (NLT) – "Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil… Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith."
Satan’s attacks are real, but standing firm in faith gives us victory.
2 Corinthians 10:4 (NLT) – "We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments."
Our battle is fought with spiritual weapons, not human effort.
Recognise that spiritual warfare is real—don’t ignore it!
Stand on God’s Word, pray fervently, and resist the devil’s lies.
Declare: "I stand firm in Christ—the enemy has no hold on me!"
A tree with deep roots withstands storms. A Christian deeply rooted in Christ withstands every attack of the enemy.
C.S. Lewis said: "There is no neutral ground in the universe: every square inch, every split second, is claimed by God and counterclaimed by Satan."
Conclusion: Go! And Stand Strong!
Ephesians 6:10-11 calls us to action:
Be strong in the Lord – Rely on His power, not your own.
Put on God’s armour – Spiritually equip yourself daily.
Stand firm against the enemy – Hold your ground in faith!
Call to Action:
Each day, pray and put on the full armour of God.
Stand firm in faith—don’t allow fear, doubt, or deception to shake you.
Engage in spiritual warfare through prayer, the Word, and worship!
Invitation to Faith:
If you have never placed your faith in Jesus, today is the day. Pray:
"Lord Jesus, I surrender my life to You. Forgive my sins, make me new, and strengthen me to stand firm in You. Amen."
Hallelujah! The battle belongs to the Lord!
