Go! And Fear Not—God Is with You - Isaiah 41:10
Introduction: The Reality of Fear and the Assurance of God’s Presence
Fear is something we all experience. It creeps into our hearts when we face uncertainty, trials, or the unknown. It whispers lies that make us doubt God’s promises and question His faithfulness.
But the Word of God repeatedly reminds us: Do not fear!
Isaiah 41:10 (NLT) declares: "Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand."
This verse is not just a comforting sentiment—it is a divine command, a rock-solid promise, and a life-changing truth. Today, we will explore what it means to live fearlessly in faith, trusting in the presence, power, and promises of God.
God tells us to Go! And Fear Not—because He is with us! Let’s examine this passage and its powerful implications for our lives.
1. Go! And Fear Not—Because God Is with You
Isaiah 41:10 begins with a powerful command:
"Don’t be afraid, for I am with you."
The Hebrew word for "afraid" here is ????? (yare’), which means to tremble, be terrified, or deeply dread something. It is the same word used when Israel trembled in fear at Mount Sinai (Exodus 20:18-19). Fear paralyses, controls, and overwhelms. But God’s response to fear is simple: I am with you!
This is not just an abstract promise—it is a truth demonstrated throughout Scripture:
Joshua 1:9 (NLT) – "This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."
Joshua faced the immense task of leading Israel into the Promised Land, yet God assured him that His presence was enough.
Matthew 28:20 (NLT) – "And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
Jesus promised His abiding presence to His disciples—His presence is our source of courage!
Fear diminishes when we focus on God’s presence rather than our problems.
Whatever you are facing, remember: You are not alone—God is with you!
Speak faith over fear: "God is with me, I will not be afraid!"
A little boy walking home at night was afraid of the dark. His father held his hand and said, "I’m right here." The fear melted away because his father’s presence was greater than his fear.
Max Lucado writes: "Fear may fill our world, but it doesn’t have to fill our hearts. It will always knock on the door, but we don’t have to invite it in."
2. Go! And Fear Not—Because God Is Your God
The verse continues:
"Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God."
The Hebrew word for "discouraged" is ?????? (sha‘ah), meaning dismayed, shattered, or broken down. Fear leads to discouragement, which leads to spiritual paralysis. But God gives us a reason not to be discouraged: I am your God!
Consider these supporting Scriptures:
Psalm 46:1 (NLT) – "God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble."
He is not just a God—He is your God! Your personal refuge, strength, and helper.
Romans 8:31 (NLT) – "If God is for us, who can ever be against us?"
Fear fades when we realise that the Almighty God fights for us.
When fear and discouragement rise, declare: "God is my God—I will not be shaken!"
Shift your focus from fear to faith by worshipping God in difficult times.
Recognise that discouragement is a tool of the enemy—resist it with God’s truth!
Imagine being lost in a storm, but then realising you are inside a house with strong walls. The storm still rages, but you are safe. That is what it means to trust that God is your God!
Charles Spurgeon said: "To trust God in the light is nothing, but to trust Him in the dark—that is faith."
3. Go! And Fear Not—Because God Will Strengthen and Help You
Isaiah 41:10 continues:
"I will strengthen you and help you."
The Hebrew word for "strengthen" is ?????? (‘amets), meaning to make firm, resolute, and courageous. God does not simply remove fear—He empowers us to overcome it!
Consider these Scriptures:
2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT) – "For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline."
Fear is not from God—He gives power!
Philippians 4:13 (NLT) – "For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength."
His strength is greater than your weakness.
When you feel weak, remember: God’s strength is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).
Ask God daily for His strength—rely on His power, not your own.
Declare: "God is my strength—I will not fear!"
A child learning to ride a bike feels safe as long as the parent holds them steady. God holds us steady—His strength keeps us from falling.
A.W. Tozer wrote: "A scared world needs a fearless church."
4. Go! And Fear Not—Because God Holds You in Victory
The verse concludes:
"I will hold you up with my victorious right hand."
The "right hand" in Hebrew thought symbolises power, authority, and victory. When God upholds us, we stand in victory!
Supporting Scriptures:
Psalm 63:8 (NLT) – "I cling to you; your strong right hand holds me securely."
We are held by God—nothing can snatch us from His hand!
John 10:28 (NLT) – "I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me."
Jesus secures us forever!
Trust that God’s victorious hand upholds you—you will not fall!
Walk boldly in victory—fear has no hold on you!
When doubt creeps in, remember: God has already won the battle!
A child crossing a busy road holds tightly to their father’s hand. But what really matters is that the father is holding them!
Corrie Ten Boom said: "Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God."
Conclusion: Go! And Fear Not!
Isaiah 41:10 is a battle cry against fear. Because:
God is with you—you are never alone.
God is your God—He is personal and faithful.
God strengthens and helps you—you are not powerless.
