Summary: God is not a man; He cannot lie, therefore, whenever he speaks, obedience is the only expected response.

For centuries, the “Church” has taught “Repentance” as the focus of the Christian experience. Daily confession of all sins.

But, from the beginning with Adam and Eve, God has always been much more concerned about our obedience--to His Word.

“God is not a man, that he should lie…” (Numbers 23:19 KJV). Therefore, whenever he speaks, obedience is the only expected response.

Whenever God said, “Let there be …” it came to pass. Everything obeyed--the light, the wind, the waters, the firmament, the mountains, the waves, the earth, the sun, the moon. Then on the sixth day--God created the first man--Adam.

His instructions to this man were simple:

“And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, "of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die” (Genesis 2:16,17).

As concise as could be, God said, “Thou shalt not ...”

But the serpent said, “Ye shall not surely die.” (Genesis 3:4).

“And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food…, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave unto her husband with her and he did eat.” (Genesis 3:6).

The penalty for disobedience was clear--"Thou shall surely die.” Adam and Eve chose to disobey.

What’s your choice today, Obey and live or disobey and die?

“… By one man’s disobedience, many were made sinners…” (Romans 5:19). Adams’ disobedience brought condemnation to all that are born from him.

The choices we make affect all those connected to us—for good or for evil. However, by the obedience of one--Christ-- by His death, burial and resurrection, we can all be made righteous.

The prophet Samuel declared “…Behold to obey is better…” (1Samuel 15:22).

Peter and the other apostles preached--“We ought to obey God rather than man. (Acts,5:9).

James said, "Be ye doers of the word and not hearers only…” (James 1:22)

People often sin with the intention of repenting. But repentance is never a substitute for obedience.

Commit your life to Christ today and He will empower you to live free from sin. (John 1:12).

Just simply obey.
