Go! And Trust in God’s Faithfulness
Introduction
Lamentations 3:22-23 (NLT) declares:
"The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning."
These verses remind us that no matter what we face, God’s love and mercy are constant. Jeremiah, often considered the author of Lamentations, wrote these words in the midst of deep sorrow. He had witnessed the destruction of Jerusalem and the suffering of his people. Yet, in his despair, he clung to the truth that God’s faithfulness never wavers.
Today, we will explore the faithfulness of God and how we are called to trust Him in every season of life.
1. God’s Faithfulness is Unchanging
Hebrews 13:8 (NLT) - "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever."
The Hebrew word for faithfulness in Lamentations 3:23 is ’emunah (????????), which means steadfastness, firmness, and fidelity. God’s faithfulness is an intrinsic part of His nature—He does not change.
Malachi 3:6 (NLT) - "I am the Lord, and I do not change. That is why you descendants of Jacob are not already destroyed."
In a world of uncertainty, God remains constant. His promises endure, His love never fades, and His grace is always available.
When we struggle with doubt, we must remember that God is the same God who has carried His people through trials for generations.
"God’s faithfulness means that God will always do what He said and fulfill what He has promised." – Wayne Grudem
2. God’s Mercies Are New Every Morning
Psalm 103:8 (NLT) - "The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love."
The Hebrew word for mercies in Lamentations 3:23 is rachamim (????????), which is derived from the word for a mother’s womb, conveying deep, tender compassion.
Isaiah 40:31 (NLT) - "But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint."
Each new day brings a fresh outpouring of God’s mercy. We don’t rely on yesterday’s strength; God provides renewal each day.
When we wake up each morning, we should begin with gratitude, knowing that God has given us a fresh start.
"God’s mercies are fresh every morning—not as an obligation but as an outpouring of His love." – Charles Stanley
3. Trusting in God’s Faithfulness in Hard Times
2 Corinthians 12:9 (NLT) - "Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.’ So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me."
Even when circumstances are difficult, God remains faithful.
Romans 8:28 (NLT) - "And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them."
Paul endured suffering, yet he trusted that God’s grace was sufficient. The Greek word for grace in 2 Corinthians 12:9 is charis (?????), meaning divine favour, undeserved kindness.
When life is hard, we must remember that God is at work, even in our suffering.
A tapestry may look like a mess from the back, but when turned around, the beautiful design is revealed—just as God is weaving His perfect plan in our lives.
"Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God." – Corrie ten Boom
4. Living in Response to God’s Faithfulness
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NLT) - "Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus."
If we believe in God’s faithfulness, we must live in response to it.
James 1:22 (NLT) - "But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves."
Our faith should not be passive. The Greek word for doers in James 1:22 is poietai (p???ta?), meaning performers or practitioners.
How do we respond to God’s faithfulness? By living lives of gratitude, obedience, and trust.
"Faith is not believing in spite of the evidence but obeying in spite of the consequences." – A.W. Tozer
Call to Action: Trust and Obey
If God’s mercies are new every morning, if He is unchanging, and if He is always faithful, how should we respond?
Trust Him Completely – Surrender your fears and anxieties.
Live with Gratitude – Begin each day thanking God for His mercies.
Obey Him Fully – Walk in faith, knowing that His plans are good.
Imagine a child jumping into their father’s arms, fully trusting he will catch them. That’s the kind of faith we are called to have in God.
Invitation to Faith in Jesus
Perhaps you have never placed your trust in Jesus. The greatest demonstration of God’s faithfulness is found in Jesus Christ.
John 3:16 (NLT) - "For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life."
Today, you can receive the mercy and grace of God by trusting in Jesus as your Lord and Saviour.
Conclusion
God’s faithfulness is our foundation. His mercies are new every morning. No matter what you are facing, trust in Him.
