Go! And Rely on God's Unfailing Love! - Psalm 33:4-5

Introduction: The Foundation of Trust

Trust is essential in life. Every day, we place our trust in people, systems, and routines—whether driving a car, following medical advice, or even sitting on a chair. But the most important trust we can have is in the Lord.

Psalm 33:4-5 (NLT) declares:

“For the word of the Lord holds true,

and we can trust everything he does.

He loves whatever is just and good;

the unfailing love of the Lord fills the earth.”

This passage is a powerful reminder of who God is—His truth, His faithfulness, and His unfailing love. In a world filled with uncertainty, these verses call us to go and trust in the Lord’s unchanging character.

Let’s explore three key truths from this passage that reveal why we can fully trust God.

1. Go! And Trust in the Truth of God’s Word

Psalm 33:4 says: “For the word of the Lord holds true, and we can trust everything he does.”

The phrase “the word of the Lord” refers to God’s spoken and written revelation. The Hebrew word for “word” here is da?ar (??????), which not only means speech but also action—it implies that when God speaks, He acts.

Isaiah 55:11 (NLT) reinforces this truth: “It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.”

God’s Word is not empty or unreliable; it is powerful and effective. From the beginning of creation, when He said, “Let there be light” (Genesis 1:3), His Word has been true and unshakable.

If God’s Word is true, we must build our lives upon it. Jesus Himself affirmed this in Matthew 7:24-25 (NLT):

“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.”

Are you standing on the truth of God’s Word, or are you trusting in shifting sands?

Imagine a sailor navigating by the stars. Without a fixed reference point, they would drift aimlessly. God’s Word is our true north, guiding us through life’s storms.

Charles Spurgeon once said: “The word of God is the anvil upon which the opinions of men are smashed.”

God’s Word remains unchanging, no matter what culture or circumstances say.

2. Go! And Trust in God’s Justice and Goodness

Psalm 33:5 says: “He loves whatever is just and good; the unfailing love of the Lord fills the earth.”

The Hebrew word for “just” here is mišpa? (?????????), which refers to righteous judgment and fairness. The word for “good” is ?e?aqâ (???????), meaning righteousness or moral uprightness. God’s love is not passive; it actively upholds justice and righteousness.

This truth is echoed in:

Deuteronomy 32:4 (NLT): “He is the Rock; his deeds are perfect. Everything he does is just and fair. He is a faithful God who does no wrong; how just and upright he is!”

We live in a world where injustice often prevails, but God’s justice will always prevail. If you are facing unfairness or hardship, trust that God sees and will bring justice in His time.

Micah 6:8 (NLT) tells us how to respond: “O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”

Are we reflecting God’s justice and goodness in how we treat others?

A judge may be influenced by human biases, but God’s justice is perfect. He does not overlook wrongdoing, nor does He withhold grace from the repentant.

Timothy Keller wrote: “God’s justice is not simply a balancing of scales—it is setting things right.”

3. Go! And Trust in God’s Unfailing Love

Psalm 33:5 ends with this powerful statement: “The unfailing love of the Lord fills the earth.”

The Hebrew word for “unfailing love” is ?ese? (?????), which conveys steadfast love, mercy, and kindness. This love is not based on our actions—it is part of who God is.

This is beautifully expressed in:

Lamentations 3:22-23 (NLT): “The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.”

Application

If God’s love is unfailing, why do we sometimes doubt Him? He loves us despite our failures. We must respond to His love by trusting Him completely.

Jeremiah 17:7-8 (NLT) gives us this assurance: “But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.”

Are we deeply rooted in God’s love, or are we shaken by every trial?

A child jumps into their father’s arms without fear, knowing they will be caught. That is the trust God desires from us.

Max Lucado reminds us: “God loves you just the way you are, but He refuses to leave you that way. He wants you to be just like Jesus.”

Conclusion: Go! And Trust in God Completely

Psalm 33:4-5 calls us to trust in God’s truth, His justice, and His unfailing love.

Trust in His Word – Stand on His unchanging promises.

Trust in His justice – He is faithful and fair.

Trust in His love – He will never abandon you.

God is calling you to deeper faith. Will you trust Him?

Invitation to Faith in Jesus

If you have never placed your faith in Jesus, today is the day to do so.

Romans 5:8 (NLT): “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.”

Salvation is available to you now. Will you trust Him and surrender your life to Jesus?

Romans 10:9 (NLT): “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Will you go and trust in the Lord today?

May we go and trust in the Lord’s unfailing love!
