Go! And Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus
Introduction
Today, our message centres on a life-transforming truth: Go! and turn your eyes upon Jesus. In a world full of distractions, doubts, and difficulties, the key to hope and victory is to fix our gaze on Christ.
Hebrews 12:2 (NLT): exhorts us: “We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honour beside God’s throne.”
This verse calls us to actively focus on Jesus, the one who leads and completes our faith journey.
Together, we will explore three essential truths:
Look to Jesus for salvation.
Look to Jesus for strength.
Look to Jesus for direction.
1. Look to Jesus for Salvation
Salvation is found in no one else but Jesus.
Acts 4:12 (NLT) proclaims: “There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”
The Greek word for “salvation” (s?t???a, soteria) encompasses deliverance, preservation, and restoration. It is not just rescue from sin but also the promise of eternal life and transformation in the here and now.
John 14:6 (NLT): “Jesus told him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.’”
Jesus doesn’t merely show us the way; He is the way. He doesn’t simply speak truth; He is truth incarnate. He doesn’t offer life as a concept; He embodies life itself.
Imagine being lost in a dense forest, disoriented and hopeless. Suddenly, a guide appears and not only shows the way out but carries you to safety. That’s what Jesus does for us—He saves us when we are helpless.
Have you turned to Jesus for salvation? Trust in Him alone.
As Billy Graham once said, “The cross shows us the seriousness of our sin—but it also shows us the immeasurable love of God.” Look to the cross and experience the freedom only He can bring.
2. Look to Jesus for Strength
Life’s trials can feel overwhelming, but Jesus offers us His strength.
Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT) invites us: “Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.’”
The word “yoke” (?????, zugos) refers to a wooden harness used to pair oxen for work. Jesus’ yoke is unique—it binds us to Him, making our labour easier as He carries the heavier load.
Philippians 4:13 (NLT): “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.”
This verse reminds us that our strength is not self-derived but comes through Christ’s empowering presence.
Think of a young child trying to carry a heavy box. A loving parent steps in, lifting the weight while the child continues to walk forward. Similarly, Jesus shares our burdens, giving us strength to persevere.
What burdens are you carrying today? Bring them to Jesus.
As Corrie ten Boom said, “Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow; it empties today of its strength.”
Turn to Jesus, and He will sustain you.
3. Look to Jesus for Direction
Finally, Jesus is our guide in the journey of life.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT) reminds us: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”
The Hebrew word for “trust” (???????, batach) conveys a sense of confident reliance. Seeking God’s will involves acknowledging His sovereignty and submitting our plans to Him.
Psalm 119:105 (NLT): “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.”
God’s Word illuminates the path before us, providing clarity and assurance even in uncertain times.
Picture a traveller navigating a dark path with a lantern. The light doesn’t show the entire journey but provides enough illumination for the next step. That’s how God’s Word guides us.
Are you seeking God’s direction for your life? Spend time in His Word and prayer. As Charles Stanley said, “God will move heaven and earth to show you His will when you fully depend on Him.”
Conclusion: Call to Action
Hebrews 12:2 urges us to fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. In Him, we find salvation, strength, and direction. Today, let’s make a conscious choice to turn our eyes upon Jesus and follow Him wholeheartedly.
If you have never trusted Jesus as your Saviour, today is the day.
Acts 16:31 (NLT) declares: “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved.”
Place your faith in Him, and He will give you new life. If you are already a believer, renew your commitment to keep your focus on Christ.
Let us pray together, asking God to help us fix our eyes on Jesus and walk in His ways. As we go from here, may our lives reflect the glory of the One who has called us to Himself.
