LORD, TEACH US TO PRAY…

1 CAN WE TELL THE DIFFERENCE? HOW TO? TEACH US TO?
I was a teenager I heard an old preacher deliver a super lesson. I always thought the disciples said: LORD, TEACH US HOW TO PRAY. I had even taught: LORD, TEACH US HOW TO PRAY. He stated the New Testament did not say: LORD, TEACH US HOW TO PRAY. Then he stated what JESUS REALLY SAID: LORD, TEACH US TO PRAY. I could not wait to get home and check it out… The Preacher was right.
Luke 11:1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
IT IS MY DESIRE TO HAVE AN INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST. Lord we need to follow you the best we can. If we are going to follow you Jesus we need to enjoy the kind of prayer life that YOU AND THE FATHER HAVE.
2 DON’T PRAY LIKE THEM… THE PRAYER LIFE OF JESUS WAS SO DIFFERENT FROM THE RELIGIOUS LEADER OF THEIR DAY, OFTEN THOSE PRAYER WERE SHOW-OFF PRAYERS THAT COULD CAUSE SOMEONE TO GO TO SLEEP. JESUS PRAYED WITH EFFECTUAL, PASSIONATE, FERVENT WORDS.
Jesus countenance chanced when he prayed. Jesus said : DON’T PRAY LIKE THE OTHERS DO… LONG, MEANINGLESS REPETITION… IS THE EFFECTIVE PRAYER QUANTITY OR QUALITY?
Matthew 6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
3. THERE ARE BASICALLY TWO KINDS OF PRAYER LIFE. 1. TO IMPRESS MAN. 2. TO IMPRESS GOD? LORD, TEACH E TO PRAY CORRECTLY!
Luke 18:9 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: 10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. 12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. 13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
4. IF WE ARE GOING TO PETITION GOD’S THRONE WHY NOT MAKE IT MEET GOD STANDARDS.
James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
5. *GOOD PRAYER IS CONDITIONAL… IF –THEN… (Many forget the “IF’s”)
* IF GOD’S PEOPLE PRAY WE HAVE PROMISES TO STAND ON. IF WE WILL 1. CALL ON HIS NAME, 2. HUMBLE OUR SELF, *3. PRAY, 4. SEEK HIS FACE, 5. TURN FROM SIN.
*2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, *and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
* THEN WILL GOD: 1. HEAR US, 2. FORGIVE US, 3. HEAL OUR LAND.
6. PRAY FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM.
Psalm 122:6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.
7. PLEASE PRAY FOR THE LOST AND BACKSLIDE.
Luke 15:4 What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? 5 And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6 And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. 7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.
8. PRAY FOR THE WORKERS, STATS SAY: 20% OF CHRISTIANS WORKERS DO 80% OF THE WORK.
Matthew 9:38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
9. PRAY AGAINST LUKEWARMNESS IN THE FAMILY/CHURCH. (Rev. 3:16)
2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
10. PRAY FOR YOUR FAMILY.
Job 1:5 And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.
11. PRAY FOR FRUIT. (1 Cor. 3:6)
Matthew 13:8 But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.
12. PRAY THAT THE FRUIT MAY REMAIN..
John 15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
13. PRAY THAT YOUR LOVE ABOUND.
John 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
14. PRAY FOR WISDOM AND UNDERSTANDING.
James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
15. PRAY FOR THE GIFT OF PERSONAL, FAMILY AND CHURCH PEACE.
John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
16. PRAY TO BE A PERSONAL SOUL WINNER.
Proverbs 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.
17. PRAY FOR YOUR LEADERS, WORLD, NATIONAL, STATE, LOCAL AND SPIRITUAL LEADERS.
1 Timothy 2:1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
18. PRAY FOR GODLY COMPASSION.
Jude 1:22 And of some have compassion, making a difference:
19. PRAY THAT YOU WILL BE QUICK TO FORGIVE. (Luke 6:37)
Colossians 3:12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; 13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
20. PRAY FOR FAITHFULNESS. (HEBREWS 10:25)
1 Corinthians 4:2 Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.
21. PRAY FOR DIVINE PROTECTION.
Job 1:10 Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
22. PRAY FOR A WILLING, VOLUNTEER SPIRIT… WANT TO…
Colossians 3:23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; 24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
23. PRAY FOR THE HOLY SPIRIT TO ALWAYS BE NEAR.
Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
24. PRAY THAT PEOPLE WILL FOLLOW THE COMMAND TO BE BAPTIZED IN WATER. (Command, not personal choice)
Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
25. PRAY FOR THE ARMY, MARINES, NAVY, LAW ENFORCEMENT ON ALL LEVELS, FIRE FIGHTERS AND EMT’S.
