Title: Something Great is About to Happen
Scripture Reference: Habakkuk 1:5
"Look at the nations and watch— and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told."
Introduction:
Church, have you ever been in a place where the reality of what you see doesn’t match the promise of what God said? Have you ever been stuck between the “already” and the “not yet”? That’s exactly where Habakkuk finds himself. He’s looking at a broken nation, a discouraged people, and a situation that seems impossible. Yet, in the middle of his confusion, God interrupts his despair with this bold declaration: “Look and be amazed. I am about to do something in your days that you wouldn’t believe even if I told you.”
Now, I don’t know who needs to hear this, but God’s promise to Habakkuk is His promise to us today. Something great is about to happen. I believe this for our church, for this ministry, and for your life. But before we can step into it, we must learn to posture ourselves in faith.
Let me ask you: Are you ready? Are you expecting God to move in ways you’ve never seen before? Are you prepared for Him to exceed your wildest dreams? If your spirit says “yes,” then journey with me as we unpack this powerful promise.
1. Expectation Precedes Manifestation
Habakkuk begins this chapter with a bold question: “Lord, why aren’t You moving? Why does injustice seem to prevail? Where is Your power?” (Habakkuk 1:2-4). Yet God’s response shifts the focus. He says, “Look! Watch! I’m about to move.”
Here’s the lesson: Expectation sets the stage for God’s manifestation. Faith isn’t just believing in what you see; it’s believing in what you don’t see. Hebrews 11:1 reminds us: “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
Elijah’s Expectation:
Let’s bring this home with a familiar story. In 1 Kings 18:41-46, Elijah prayed for rain during a severe drought. He didn’t just pray; he expected an answer. He sent his servant to look for signs of rain—not once, not twice, but seven times. On the seventh time, the servant saw a small cloud the size of a man’s hand. That small cloud didn’t look like much, but it was the precursor to an abundant outpouring.
Some of you are in your sixth time looking for the cloud. You’re wondering, “Where is the answer? Where is the breakthrough?” But I dare you to go one more time. Keep looking, keep expecting, because God is about to release an outpouring in your life!
2. God’s Greatness is Bigger Than Your Imagination
God tells Habakkuk, “What I’m about to do is so great, you wouldn’t believe it even if I told you.” Why? Because God’s greatness exceeds human comprehension. Ephesians 3:20 reminds us that He is able to do “exceedingly, abundantly above all we ask or think.”
Sometimes we limit God’s greatness to the size of our prayers. But can I challenge you? Stop praying small prayers to a big God. He’s not just trying to meet your expectations—He wants to exceed them.
Biblical Example: The Feeding of the 5,000
When Jesus fed the 5,000 (Matthew 14:13-21), the disciples only saw the five loaves and two fish. They thought, “This isn’t enough.” But in the hands of Jesus, what seemed insufficient became more than enough. Not only did everyone eat, but there were 12 baskets of leftovers.
Application:
Church, what’s in your hands may look small, but when you give it to God, it becomes great. Don’t limit what He can do. He’s not just trying to sustain you—He’s trying to overflow you!
Preaching Moment: Somebody needs to declare, “My God is bigger than my problem! My God is bigger than my vision! My God is about to do something great!”
3. Prepare for the Unexpected
Habakkuk’s prophecy challenges us to embrace the unexpected. God says, “I’m doing something new.” Isaiah 43:19 echoes this: “Behold, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs forth; do you not perceive it?”
Here’s the truth: God rarely moves in ways we predict. He loves to surprise us. The Bible is filled with examples of God defying human expectations:
• He delivered Israel not with an army, but with a shepherd named Moses and a staff.
• He defeated Goliath not with a soldier, but with a boy named David and a sling.
• He saved the world not with a king on a throne, but with a Savior on a cross.
Peter and the Miraculous Catch
In Luke 5, Peter had been fishing all night with no success. Jesus told him to cast his net on the other side of the boat. It didn’t make sense, but Peter obeyed. The result? A catch so great that the nets began to break.
Application: Obedience unlocks the unexpected. If you want to see God’s greatness, you must be willing to move when He says move—even when it doesn’t make sense.
Church, are you ready for God to surprise you? Are you ready for blessings that don’t make sense, favor that you can’t explain, and miracles that defy logic?
4. God Uses Ordinary People to Do Extraordinary Things
Throughout the Bible, God consistently chooses the unlikely to accomplish the extraordinary.
• David was just a shepherd boy.
• Gideon was hiding in fear.
• Mary was a young, unassuming girl.
• The disciples were fishermen, tax collectors, and ordinary men.
What’s the common thread? They were willing. God doesn’t call the qualified; He qualifies the called.
Your Ministry Matters... Don’t underestimate your role in God’s plan. Whether you’re leading a ministry, serving in the background, or simply praying for the church, your contribution matters. This church is on the brink of greatness, and every member is a part of that story.
Somebody here has been doubting their significance, but God sent me to remind you: He has chosen you. He’s anointed you. And He’s going to use you to do great things!
5. It’s Time to Declare the Promise
Habakkuk didn’t wait for the promise to manifest before he praised God. By the time we get to Habakkuk 3:17-19, he declares: “Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines… yet I will rejoice in the Lord.” His declaration was an act of faith.
Proverbs 18:21: Speak Life
The Bible says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” What are you speaking over your life, your family, your ministry, and this church? Your words create your reality.
Let’s practice this right now. Declare it with me:
• “Something great is about to happen in my life!”
• “Something great is about to happen in my church!”
• “Something great is about to happen in my family!”
Closing:
Church, I feel it in my spirit: Something great is about to happen! Doors are opening. Chains are breaking. Blessings are being released. God is shifting this house into a new season of favor and expansion.
Eyes have not seen, ears have not heard, nor has it entered into the heart of man what God has prepared for those who love Him (1 Corinthians 2:9).
I declare over this house-----
• New ministries are being birthed.
• Financial overflow is coming.
• Souls are being saved.
Somebody ought to praise Him like it’s already done! Worship Him like the blessing is already here! Shout, “Something great is about to happen!”
Call to Discipleship:
1. Salvation: If you’re ready to step into the greatness God has for you, it starts with surrendering to Jesus.
2. Rededication: If you’ve stopped expecting God to move, it’s time to reignite your faith.
3. Membership: If you’re looking for a church where God is moving, this is your home.
Final Prayer:
Let us pray. Heavenly Father,
We come before You with hearts full of expectation and gratitude. You are the God of wonders, the God who does the impossible, the God who makes ways in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Today, we stand on the promise of Your Word, believing that You are about to do something great—not just in this church but in each and every life represented here.
Lord, we thank You for this ministry. We thank You for how You have sustained us, how You have carried us through seasons of uncertainty, and how You continue to pour out Your grace. We declare today that we are ready to step into the new season You have prepared for us. You said in Your Word, “Look and be amazed, for I am doing something in your days that you wouldn’t believe even if you were told.” Lord, we are looking, we are watching, and we are waiting with expectation.
Father, we pray for this church.
• Enlarge our territory, O God.
• Strengthen our leadership, unify our membership, and anoint our ministries.
• Let this house be a beacon of light in this community, a place where people encounter Your love, experience transformation, and find hope.
Bring revival, Lord—a fresh wind of Your Spirit. Send a wave of salvation, healing, and deliverance that changes lives and impacts generations.
Lord, we pray for the individuals in this house.
• For every person seeking direction, give clarity.
• For every person who feels unworthy, remind them that they are called, chosen, and equipped for greatness.
• For those who are discouraged, infuse them with Your joy and peace.
• For those with broken dreams, reignite their vision.
Father, we lift up every personal ministry represented here. From those who preach Your Word to those who teach, from those who serve in the background to those on the front lines—bless their labor, multiply their efforts, and give them supernatural strength. Let them see fruit in due season, and remind them that their work is not in vain.
Lord, we pray for the dreamers and visionaries. For those who have been holding onto a promise that hasn’t yet come to pass, remind them that delay is not denial. Teach us to wait with faith, to prepare with diligence, and to trust Your timing.
Lord, we pray for an outpouring of Your Spirit.
• Release a double portion of Your anointing over this church.
• Break every chain of limitation.
• Tear down every wall of doubt.
• Open the floodgates of heaven and pour out blessings we won’t have room enough to receive.
And Father, we pray for the nations. You told Habakkuk to look at the nations and be amazed. Lord, we lift up this world to You—its pain, its brokenness, and its desperate need for You. Let this church be part of the global movement of Your Spirit, spreading hope, healing, and salvation to the ends of the earth.
Finally, Father, we declare that we are ready. Ready to see the greatness You have promised. Ready to step into the abundance You have prepared. Ready to move forward in faith. Lord, we declare by faith that this is a season of breakthrough. This is a season of increase. This is a season of miracles.
Lord, we seal this prayer in the mighty, matchless name of Jesus Christ. And all God’s people shouted, “Amen!”
