The I Am Of All I Ams.
Exodus 3.
If you’re in Lake City, Fla., one of these days and happen to run into a 50-something fellow with a sandy mustache, a receding hairline, and aviator glasses, you may be in the presence of I Am Who I Am. Columbia County Court turned down Charles Haffey first request for a new name- God. Finally, Charles was granted the name of, God.
The former Charles Haffey says he wanted a new identity because of lingering feelings of anxiety over his military service in Vietnam.
Do you know the Name of God? It is made up of four Hebrew letters.
Yud
heh
vav
heh
Put together, YHVH.
It is the most sacred of names, so sacred some refuse to say it. And yet you say it all the time.
His name and His existence was first, and your existence flows from Him.
However, you might say, “How could I say it every day, when I never knew it?”
When you speak of yourself, you say the name, I AM.
Can I give you an example?
When introducing yourself you say, “I am…….”
Why? Because His existence is first and your existence flows from His.
In, Exodus 3, Moses is on the backside of the desert.
Listen to these verses that set the table for this mornings text.
Exodus 3:1-4 “Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2 There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. 3 So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.” 4 When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am.””
Notice how Moses answers Yahweh. Here I am!
Moses answers with I am twice more; however God uses this terminology in, Exodus 3 several times!
Yahweh desires that ‘we’ identify with our eternal God who is forever present!
Why? Because…..His existence is first and your existence flows from Him.
Exodus 3:13-15NIV Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?””
14 God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’ ” 15 God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ “This is my name forever, the name you shall call me from generation to generation.”
Yahweh, The, I Am. YHVH means, I Am.
It’s the name of the eternal, the name of God!
Think about this, When you feel happy, you say, “I am happy.” And when you’re not, you say, “I am sad.”
When you tell others who you are, you say, “I am” followed by your name.
His name is, I Am.
His name is the root of who you are, because your name is fully backed by Him.
Knowing this truth puts our lives into perspective. -He is the sovereign God, and we are His.
1 John 4.4AMP “Little children (believers, dear ones), you are of God and you belong to Him and have [already] overcome them [the agents of the antichrist]; because He who is in you is greater than he (Satan) who is in the world [of sinful mankind].”
Listen to this proclamation by God. -Isaiah 42.8-9NIV ““I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols. 9 See, the former things have taken place, and new things I declare; before they spring into being I announce them to you.””
When someone refuses to recognize the deity of the, I AM, they actually deny their very own existence, because their name is tied to God’s name! P.H
Hear this word, His name is woven into the fabric of existence that when you speak of yourself, you must say his name.
Again, why is that? It’s because your existence comes from His existence!
He is the I am of all existence… The I am of all I Ams.
The apostle Paul preaching to the people in Athens, And Paul knew these folks sought after knowledge upon knowledge.
Acts 17.28NIV “‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’”
We are I Ams!
As a believer, you need to understand His name carries weight.
This is what I personally know, “Your whole outlook and personality should be one of confidence, knowing the I AM backs you up!” PH
Hear more God talk, Isaiah 45:5-8 NIV “I am the Lord, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God. I will strengthen you, though you have not acknowledged me, 6 so that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting people may know there is none besides me. I am the Lord, and there is no other. 7 I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the Lord, do all these things. 8 “You heavens above, rain down my righteousness; let the clouds shower it down. Let the earth open wide, let salvation spring up, let righteousness flourish with it; I, the Lord, have created it.”
God’s righteousness covers the earth, that’s why all it takes is for some lost, or hurting soul to call out, I Am!
What’s in a name?
Noah was a drunk. Abraham was too old. Isaac was a daydreamer. Jacob was a liar.
Joseph was abused. Moses had a stuttering problem. Gideon was afraid. Samson was a womanizer. Rahab was a prostitute. Jeremiah and Timothy were too young. David had an affair and was a murderer. Elijah was suicidal. Jonah ran from God. Naomi was a widow. Job went bankrupt. John the Baptist ate bugs. Peter denied Christ. The Disciples fell asleep while praying. Martha worried about everything. The Samaritan woman was divorced, more than once. Zaccheus was too small.
So you see our name doesn’t always describe our purpose, but when it is empowered by the great I AM it makes an average person do extraordinary things.
Why? Because His existence is first and your existence flows from Him.
What’s in your name? It’s time to identify the I Am. -I Am changes everything.
Notice, in Exodus 3, Moses is on the backside of a desert. In Moses’ loneliness, God revealed His nature, His strength, and His anointing.
So I ask you, what does God need to do to get your attention?
God uses Burning Bushes to get our attention.
God can step into your normal day, your ordinary day, and make it extraordinary! PH.
2. Yahweh calls us, and has our attention through our weakness.
Moses wasn’t a stranger to weakness, but his weakness made him strong as he recognized, the I Am.
3. God calls us in our rebellion.
Moses’ rebellion didn’t phase God.
Remember, God stepped in and brought salvation in your rebellion, in your missteps.
He became an all consuming fire, a perpetual flame, an abiding Olympic torch. PH
4. God calls and anoints broken and used up people.
Moses was known throughout Egypt as Hebrew/Egyptian trader. A murderer.
So remember, when you say your name, you must always speak His name. -And you must always speak His name first.
5. The call of God produces fruitful and productive people.
Again, Because His existence is first and your existence flows from Him.
John 15.5NIV ““I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
6. The call of God changes everything!
Therefore, you must put Him first and then let everything begin with Him and flows fourth from him.
-That’s the secret of life.
Here’s the secret, not only live for him, but to live your life from him, to live from his living, to move from his moving, to act from his actions, to feel from his heart, to be from his being, and to become Who you are from who he is… I Am.
Benediction. -Today, learn the secret of living each moment from His life, doing from His doing, loving from His love, and being from His being.
Here’s one of life’s greatest secrets: “Recognize the I am in every aspect of your life and recognize the I am living in you and through you.” PH
