Summary: There are not many fathers. What can we learn from the last supper?

FATHERS: THERE ARE 3 TYPES OF PEOPLE WE NEED IN OUR LIFES.

By Wade Martin Hughes, Sr. Kyfingers@aol.com (YouTube: Wade Hughes)

1 Corinthians 4:15 For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.

1 Corinthians 4:15 (MSG) There are a lot of people around who can't wait to tell you what you've done wrong, but there aren't many fathers willing to take the time and effort to help you grow up. It was as Jesus helped me proclaim God's Message to you that I became your father.

NEEDS VS WANTS?

*Need== something lacking, required, essential, necessary.

*Want== covet, something you wish for, to desire.

WHAT DO WE NEED?

Hebrews 10:36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

Hebrews 10:36 (MSG) But you need to stick it out, staying with God's plan so you'll be there for the promised completion.

THERE ARE 3 TYPES OF CHARACTERS THAT OUR FAMILIES AND CHURCH NEED…

1 WE NEED SOME ABRAHAMS TODAY.

Abraham was faithful.

Abraham was an OBEDIENT…

Genesis 12:1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

Hebrews 11:8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. 9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: 10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

ABRAHAM WAS HONEST AND TRUE. HE WOULD NOT SELL OUT.

Genesis 14:23 That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich:

ABRAHAM KNEW HOW TO PRAY. HE BUILT ALTARS AND DUG WELLS.

ABRAHAM DID NOT AVOID SEASONS OF TESTING.

Genesis 22:9 And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.

ABRAHAM LEARNED TO WAIT FOR THE PROMISE. 20 LONG YEARS.

Genesis 21:5 And Abraham was an hundred years old, when his son Isaac was born unto him.

ABRAHAM DEFENDED HIS FAMILY, GENESIS 14 TELLS OF LOT GETTING IN TROUBLE AND ABRAHAM RESCUED HIM.

ABRAHAM THE INTERCEDER: 50, 45, 40, 30, 20, 10…

Genesis 18:20 And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;

Genesis 18:22 And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the LORD.

2 WE NEED SOME ANDREWS…. ANDREW WAS KNOW AS PETER’S BROTHER. ANDREW FOLLOWED JOHN THE BAPTIST AND MET JESUS. ANDREW WAS A FISHERMAN BY TRADE.

ANDREW IS KNOWN AS A BRINGER. ANDREW BRINGS HIS BROTHER PETER TO JESUS.

John 1:40 One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.

41 He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ. 42 And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.

ANDREW BRINGS THE LAD WITH 5 BARLEY LOAVES AND 2 FISHES.

John 6:8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, saith unto him, 9 There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many? ANDREW BRINGS SOME GREEK STRANGERS TO JESUS.

John 12:21 The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus. 22 Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.

ANDREW WAS NEVER FAMOUS. HE HAS NO BOOK IN THE NEW TESTAMENT. BUT HIS ROLE WAS VERY IMPORTANT.

3 WE NEED SOME BARNABAS IN OUR FAMILIES AND CHURCHES. BARNABAS WAS AN ENCOURAGER.

Barnabas is known as consolation, exhorter. He was also known as JOSES, (JOH-zez)

Barnabas was a preacher, teacher at Antioch ( They were first called Christians at Antioch.)

Acts 11:24 For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.

Barnabas was a giver.

Acts 4:36 And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus, 37 Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet.

WHEN THE NEW CHURCH HEARD OF SAUL-PAUL THEY REJECTED HIM IN FEAR.

Acts 9:26 And when Saul was come to Jerusalem, he assayed to join himself to the disciples: but they were all afraid of him, and believed not that he was a disciple. 27 But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus.

BARNABAS WAS A PREACHER OF THE SECOND CHANCE. JOHN MARK WAS A QUITER. PAUL REFUSE TO ACCEPT JOHN MARK… BARNABAS GAMBLED ON THE YOUNG MAN AND HE GAVE JOHN MARK ANOTHER CHANCE.

Acts 15:37 And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark. 38 But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work. 39 And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus;

THE LESSON OF THE LAST SUPPER… NOT ONLY DO YOU HAVE TO LEARN TO EAT WITH YOUR JUDAS… JESUS WASHED ALL THE DISCIPLES FEET… THIS MEANS JESUS WASHED JUDAS’ FEET.

John 13:4 He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. 5 After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. 6 Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? 7 Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter. 8 Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. 9 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. 10 Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.

11 For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean. 12 So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? 13 Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. 16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. 17 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.

YOU MIGHT NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT I AM DOING NOW? BUT YOU WILL.

John 13:7Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.

John 13:7 (MSG) Jesus answered, "You don't understand now what I'm doing, but it will be clear enough to you later."

CONCLUSION: THE BIBLE IS FULL OF TYPES. We need certain personalities and workers in the church and in our families.

WE need: ABRAHAMS: FAITHFUL INTERCEDERS. We need: ANDREWS: BRINGERS. We need: BARNABAS: ENCOURAGERS. WE MUST LEARN THE JUDAS LESSON.

How wonder would it be it we had some to take on all 3 spirits: Interceders, Bringers, and Encouragers? Will you volunteer?
