I. In This World there are Many Things that Can Trouble our Hearts
1. Many uncertain, uncontrollable things.
2. I have come to believe that life is a:
a. Continual adjustment for each of us.
b. We feel that we get one area under control and then things fall apart in other areas.
3. I know Galton has been called upon for many adjustments in his lifetime.
a. I’m sure I could have caused some of them.
b. 41 years ago.
4. I wonder how much of this life Galton helped us to adjust to just by being himself.
a. 2 Peter 1:12-15, Remember
b. I remember.
c. My children remember.
d. Verna remembers.
e. Do you remember?
5. Galton has made his last and final adjustment.
a. He passed this way of life to his eternal home in heaven with his Lord and all his saved family and friends.
b. It was a glad day in heaven when Dr. Peak and Verna helped Galton to a saving and accepting knowledge of Jesus as Lord and Savior.
II. How Can You and I Make this Adjustment, the Absence of Our Family and Friend?
1. Not to be ignorant.
a. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-15
b. 1 Thessalonians 4:18, “comfort one another with these words.”
c. Encourage
2. Death is the means by which God can transport us from this life to eternal life.
a. Ecclesiastes 8:8, “no man hath power.”
b. Ecclesiastes 9:5, “the living know they shall die.”
c. Hebrews 9:27, appointed = not an accident.
III. In John 14:1-6, Jesus addresses the Problem of Troubled Hearts.
1. God does not want your heart troubled.
a. 2 Timothy 1:7
b. God hath not given us the spirit of fear…but power, love, and a sound mind.
2. Ye believe in God.
a. How can a belief in God calm my heart?
b. God is the giver of life.
c. God controls the circumstances in life. Jeremiah 18:6
d. God calls us home from this life.
e. 2 Timothy 4:6, Psalm 116:15
3. Believe also in me.
a. My faith is increased when I see how Jesus loved.
b. John 11:15, “to the intent ye may believe.”
c. Key word is Glad.
d. Friend, in death we know who our friends are.
e. Loved, in verses three, 5, and 36; nothing separates us from the love of God.
4. Now, what does Jesus want us to believe?
a. In John 14, heaven is a real place.
b. Philippians 4:6-7, can I tell you everything is alright in heaven today.
c. We can have this peace.
d. 2 Corinthians 5:1 and 6-10, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
e. Philippians 1:21, today is gain.
f. We say goodbye; in heaven they say hello.
IV. If We Could ask Galton What Does Life and Death Teach Us?
1. Love life, enjoy the real things.
a. Garden
b. Trees
c. Psalm 118:24, “This is the day…. Rejoice.”
2. Don’t be afraid to labor in life.
a. Drove a taxicab millions of miles.
3. Take time to build memories in life.
a. Memories are built around people.
b. Time shared together.
4. Psalm 90:9-12
a. Teach us to number our days.
b. We must apply our hearts to them.
5. What is the wisest thing you can do with your days?
a. Acknowledge God
b. Appreciate your family!
