Summary: The Believer in Christ can find themselves in the midst of worldly trouble; trouble they never asked for. When confronted by evil men and their agendas we retain an authority in Christ to set at bay unwarranted advances. Its all found in the Name of Jesus.

The Name of Jesus is our first and last line of defense against human and spiritual violence. It is not merely reciting the name that is powerful, but rather it is the authority that is behind the Name and our position within it that makes the difference.

John 17:11 I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name—the name you gave me—so that they may be one as we are one.

When we proclaim the Name of Jesus (Or His Hebrew Name Yeshua) we are letting both heaven and earth know that we are joint heirs with Christ and are declaring our Family Name! In such an environment of grace we have the authority to command spiritual violence and murder to cease in its advance against us.

Presently in the world there are sources of violent contention brewing and ready to pounce. So in the days ahead you can expect that there will be opportunities to stand in Christ and oppose various forms of attack. I say “stand” rather than advance, simply because we need to trust that God is on our side; so we really don’t need to pick a fight. In fact I believe that we should avoid confrontation whenever possible because there is a question as to whose ground we are then standing on. Let me give you an example.

Acts 16:16-18 tells the story of a girl that had unique abilities. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling. One day as Paul and Silas where preaching in that region she started shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved”. She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so annoyed that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her.

What should be brought to our attention is the girl and the divining spirit engaged the Apostles on their own turf; they were doing God’s work. She unfortunately entered into their zone of power and authority which was the result of Christ on their lives. Based on Jesus’ authority on these men the demon had to leave the girl and she ceased in her rant and lost her special abilities.

Let me give you another example of how God is capable of winning battles without lifting a finger.

A few years back I was meeting a friend of mine who was having some work done on his house. For the project, he had hired a man with whom he had previous business connections. Yet on this day the two had a disagreement and the hired man started to become quite aggressive, even to the point of becoming violent. Before the confrontation became ugly, the Holy Spirit prompted me to bind the spirit of violence that was on this man’s life. I didn’t bind the man, I bound the spirit. I said:

“In the Name of Jesus I bind the violent spirit that is at work in this man.”

Now I was about thirty feet away from this encounter and had whispered my command, but immediately the hired man turned to me obviously shaken and said, “ Wait a minute “we” don’t have a problem with you, our fight is with the boss!” My reply was; “That doesn’t matter you are now bound from being violent.” In short order the confrontation was over.

The key to dealing with any confrontation is to recognize that we are not wrestling with flesh and blood. We’re dealing with powers that have gained position, power and control over people.

Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

One more example. I was just getting out of my car the other day to go into a store, when a large dog in another vehicle started to bark at me. In frustration I yelled at the dog to shut up. Just about that time the owner of the dog was coming out of the store and he took offense at me yelling at his dog. With an angry and violent attitude he proceeded to intimidate me by getting in my face. In that moment I thought I was about to get hit by a man half my age and then the Holy Spirit prompted me to bind the spirit that was so violent in this man.

“In the Name of Jesus – I bind you!”

Within seconds the man went passive like a little boy, backed off and in protest lightly brushed against me as he left the confrontation.

Where did this spiritual battle come from in the first place?

Adam and Eve’s encounter with the Devil in the garden was the moment that they gave up rights over their lives and over the earth. A spiritual contract was sealed that day which would allow the Devil and his minions to have a say over the affairs of men.

1 John 5:19 We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.

Now not all mans motives are bad, but we also can’t deny how evil fills the heart. Under such a delusion mankind is drawing to himself spiritual trouble. This includes how man seeks after power and position in both earthly and spiritual kingdoms. And don’t overlook how fallen desire attracts flies. Hence sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, greed anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language all find spiritual support. Yet even on the most fundamental level we humans seek to control and dominate others for the purposes of satisfying self. Hence the potential for coming in contact with the dark side of humanity is very great. Unintended spiritual encounters with people under the influence can be many, but let’s simply address the subject of violence in general. Consider where life can encounter a spirit of:

• Physical violence

• Verbal violence

• Sexual violence

• Social violence

• Religious violence

• Medical violence

These events can impact our lives without our encouraging them. But I must also point out that spiritual violence can be a familiar addition to the family. If in fact we grew up in an abusive environment we not only get used to living with a particular spiritual threat, but also can become subject to that threat pursuing us

For example anyone that has grown up in a family where civil service has been a part of their lifestyle hasn’t escaped the impact of civil violence in the home. Though the military and the police are often honored and embraced as gallant defenders of the peace, their job description and training is far from it. The nature of their job is one that requires a controlled means of violence to put down another violent force. If made subject to such violence the family stronghold gets us used to the spiritual intensity that comes with the job.

This is also something we experience when gaining a steady diet of violence on television and movies. If in fact you see a man on the screen emulating a type of violence; don’t disregard it as being benign. Fantasy scenarios still call upon demonic support to mimic realism. In fact media prides itself on sharing just about every form of depravity known to man. It is also then a source of spiritual vulnerability we’ve been consuming since childhood. For this reason shield your children as much as possible from the threat but also teach them early the authority of the Name of Jesus.

“In the Name of Jesus STOP! Stop hurting me, stop touching me, stop scaring me; GO AWAY!

Each believer needs a wake up call and come to the conclusion that a demonic realm uses men to impart real harm upon others. Depending on how we’ve been raised we don’t need to go look for spiritual trouble, trouble comes looking for us. It’s like having a sign on our backs that says “kick me”. This target on our backs is a vulnerability that we carry around until get set free in Jesus. It also means that you might have to push away repeated advances until you let Jesus take that sign off your back. Check out /awakening-start-here/2024/02/how-jesus-sets-us-free-5-19694.html. However until it’s been resolved in Christ you can expect that the Name of Jesus/Yeshua will be defending you from these familiar attacks.

Whatever the battle, whether it’s as simple as having a quarrel with a man on the street or having a confrontation with an offensive medical procedure; we have a way of escape, we have authority in Christ; and we have the Name of Jesus on our side.

In the days ahead the individual Christian may not be able to depend on others as a shield against violent acts. Instead it is time that each believer develops their own set of leadership skills. That means, we each put on the armor of God and really settle in our hearts that God is for us. It is then by His authority that we set at bay any potential enemy. In the Name of Jesus violence stops hounding us when we say it stops.

If believers finally get a revelation that they are seated with Christ in heavenly realms, then evil will want to stay far from us. Based on a timely revelation it is very possible that some will call off spiritually aggressive armies with a simple word. But all of us have a birth right in Christ to say “no” to evil advances. So if you find yourself staring death in the face and some man wants to steal away your dignity or your right to life, I think it’s a good time to introduce them to the authority that you have in Jesus.
